Crazy & Creative Bible Stories for Preteens Dec 28, 2009
I was really excited to use this book as a time filler with my new preteen Bible Study. After using it a few times and having the kids give me words to fill in the Bible storie blanks, I felt really convicted. There is no place for 12 baskets of "buggers" to be collected after the crowd of thousands ate. It seemed disrespectful to read classic Bible stories with the words the kids provided to fill in the blanks. I felt like I need to apologize to God.Crazy & Creative Bible Stories For Preteens (Steven James Storytelling Library)
Not what I thought... Nov 24, 2009
Maybe I didn't read it slow enough, but this is something for a Sunday School teacher to use with a large group...not for one person. We donated it to the church and it's kind of weird. I don't think they'll use it and we go to a very modern church.
Great ideas -- not whole lessons Feb 26, 2009
I use this book whenever possible with my elementary age students in our workshop rotation model Sunday School. James really "gets" how preteens think and they all think the madlibs and skits are hysterical. I think the negative reviews were maybe expecting something different -- these aren't complete lessons, but they're great supplements to your lesson. I tend to use them as openers, for instance, do a mad lib at the beginning of class without telling them what Bible story it is in advance.
Mad-libs Feb 1, 2009
This is all mad-libs. Great game but I already bought that stuff. Was hoping for something other than mad-libs. They have some skits they want your students to do.
Sure to activate the class! Jul 20, 2008
I will use these stories as the grade 4-6 activity time following the larger group's worship/storytelling time. The acting-out (and being a bit crazy) helps them engage the Bible story. The reflective questions bring it back together.
Most are not appropriate (in my opinion) for these kids to act out for the younger kids.
