Overview Enjoying Spiritual Intimacy With God and Your Spouse Steve & Valerie Bell Praying and sharing Bible study as a married couple is vital. Nothing else will draw couples closer to the Lord and to each other. But in the midst of daily demands, it's hard to create that closeness each day. Steve and Valerie Bell show couples how to develop a deeper love relationship with God. When they do, they'll create a new atmosphere of intimacy that will infuse every part of their marriage. You can have the rich, emotionally satisfying marriage you've always dreamed of . . . but you can't achieve it without the One who made you to be loved. Do you want more_more meaning, more caring, more understanding in your marriage? The answer is simple, yet many Christians end up trapped in hollow, hurtful marriages. Steve and Valerie Bell were well on their way to having such a dissatisfactory union, when they learned the key to a fantastic marriage: spiritual intimacy. Sharing the tools that worked for them, the Bells have worked out seven exercises to help you form a greater attachment to God and your mate, including: Listening to the voice that says, "You were made to be loved." Practicing outward and visible signs of grace Ways to welcome God in your marriage "Spiritual intimacy has the potential of improving any marriage, no matter how far the direction has been away from God and each other," they write. The Bells are refreshingly realistic about the difficulties of marriage, but they also infuse each page with excitement of how God can draw couples closer to Him and each other. Steve and Valerie Bell have been married and in ministry together for almost thirty years. Steve, for twenty-five years a pastor, Christian broadcaster, and author, is currently an executive vice president of the Willow Creek Association. Valerie travels widely as a conference speaker. She has authored five books, including Getting Out of Your Kids' Faces and Into Their Hearts and She Can Laugh at the Days to Come. The Bells are parents of two grown sons and make their home in Wheaton, Illinois.
Publishers Description While desired, the idea of spiritual intimacy is scary and even threatening to some couples. They've tried those other couples devotional books, but sharing Bible study and prayer time together just doesn't come naturally. And when these sharing times seem awkward and manipulated, many couples put the book back on the shelf and simply go on as they were before. If this sounds all too familiar, "Made to Be Loved" is the sip of cool water for your thirsty marriage. Steve and Valerie Bell encourage couples to go beyond treating the symptoms of a marriage that lacks spiritual intimacy and go straight to the root of the problem. The real disease that threatens marriages is spiritual distance from God. According to the Bells, "When a husband and wife invite God into their marriage, their perspectives change. Hearts are softened, expectations become more realistic, sexual relations take on a soulish sweetness, even fights get better " Take your marriage to the next level with the help of Steve and Valerie Bell. Develop a deeper love relationship with you God, and in doing so, create a whole new atmosphere in your marriage.

Marriage Counseling Jan 5, 2004
As a Pastor, this book is so good I give a copy to every copy to every couple whose wedding ceremony I am going to perform as a part of their pre-marital counseling!!!
Finally a book that goes beyond couples devotions... Dec 30, 2003
My fiancee and I turned to Steve and Valerie's book while we were still dating -- trying to figure out how two committed Christ-followers truly integrate our spiritual lives. While this book is unapologetically targeted toward married Christian couples, I quickly found this book painting a picture of the practical, spiritually-healthy marraige we all long to enjoy.
The book describes seven "Spiritual Intimacy Exercises" that are both practical and worth the cost of the book. They are: 1. Listening to the Voice That Says 'You Were Made to Be Loved'. 2. Becoming a Life-Giver. 3. Smoothing the Rub. 4. Practicing Visible Signs of God's Grace. 5. Ways to Welcome God into Your Marraige. 6. Five Words of Honor. 7. Developing a Taste for the Classics
This book took my fiancee and I way beyond the typical "devotions and prayer together" prescription offered for a spiritually-connected marraige and offered spiritual exercises that truly helped us sense God in each other.
Made to Be Loved Aug 6, 2002
As a single person, I began reading "Made to Be Loved" with great hesitation. Throughout my reading, I appreciated the Bell's vulnerability and felt that I wasn't alone in my struggle to develop closer and deeper relationships. Even though the main focus is the marriage relationship, I would highly recommend the book to anyone who is committed to building true intimacy into relationships that matter to them. The time investment will be well worth it!
