Reviews - What do customers think about Faith Of The American Soldier H/B?
Propaganda at best Apr 13, 2008
This book is nothing more than propaganda, written and packaged in a manner that attempts to incite the patriotism of the readers in order to bring them to the author's obviously biased point of view. The author frequently cites statistics without source and uses one-sided examples and stories to prove his point. As an American Soldier (Marine), I am offended by the presumptions made within the book on the lack of morality of servicemembers who may not believe in the author's particular God.

Mansfield, Stephen. The Faith of an American Soldier Dec 31, 2007
I bought the book for my brother-in-law for his birthday on the recommendation of my sister. I have heard him interviewed and was impressed with what he said about his experience in Iraq. The disappointment I have was the length of time it took for the book to be shipped. I was not impressed with the this site affliated book dealer using the full 10 business days to ship a book. If offered I would have paid more to get the book shipped sooner.

Disappointing.... Dec 31, 2007
The title captured my interest but the negativity expressed through some of the descriptions of battle scenes bothered me especially since I have active military experience. Gross descriptions of allied soldiers killing Iraqis and then questioning motives did nothing other than undermine the reason the soldier is serving. Drawing quotes from Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11 film disappointed me as I do not see Mr. Moore as a credible authority on the war and the American soldier. A little more independent thought from Mr. Mansfield would have made better use of my time. I do NOT recommend this book unless you are anti-war and looking for reasons to criticize our troops.
An insightful look into the American soldier's faith Dec 27, 2007
Spent a $1 on this book at a local dollar store, but after reading it would willingly pay retail price. Stephen Manfield in this book does well explaining the relationship of faith and religion to the soldier on the battlefield and how it serves and inspires our soldiers in addition to helping them cope with the effects of war. Provides historical prespectives and examples throughout. Also explains how Chaplains are hindered in their functions and often torn between the separation of church and state that has become especially popular in government these days. Inspiring and well worth the read!!
