Item description for Beauty Flash by Stephane Marais...
Ever since his childhood, Staphane Marais had been fascinated by the beauty and glamour of photographs in fashion magazines. Today he ranks as one of the world's most famous make-up artists, having collaborated with the industry's most renowned photographers and fashion designers. Behind the scenes, however, Marais has been capturing his own personal vision of the beauty of the world's fashion models. Using a Polaroid camera that allows him to shoot faces at close range, Marais has taken photographs before shoots and during fashion show rehearsals for over 15 years. What originally began as a documentation of his make-up technique has long since turned into a totally independent and ongoing series of portraits. These spontaneous images present vulnerable moments that present Marais' unique vision and give the viewer an insight into the subjective reality of the models as well.

Reviews - What do customers think about Beauty Flash?
It's all so simple... Jan 31, 2002
Good cover, nice photos and is beautiful for his simplicity but if you are expecting something more, like make-up techniques and "how to do it", think twice before you buy it. I expected simplicity, but not too much...!
Artful and Intimate May 23, 2001
In Beauty Flash, Stephane Marais gives us a rare and intimate glimpse of some of the world's most beautiful faces, through the lens of his polaroid, as only he could show us. 15 years of shooting at close range before the runway shows and between magazine shoots have culminated in this beautiful volume, which features just about every top model you can think of in the last decade (at least the ones I could think of), including Linda Evangelista (one of the people to whom the book is dedicated), Amber Valetta, Shalom Harlow, Christy Turlington, Nadja Auermann, Naomi Campbell, Angela Lindvall, Carmen Kass, Erin O' Connor, and Kristen McMenamy, just to name a few.
Not surprisingly, some of the most interesting pictures were taken at the runway shows of John Galliano, for whom Marais has provided some stunningly beautiful and downright bizarre looks. The degree of this oddity is really apparent at close range, and for me, that is a big part of the appeal of this book. The only complaint that I can think of is that there is NO text whatsoever. A little explanatory paragraph here and there would have been a nice addition, but possibly he thought that the photographs speak for themselves. A small pullout section is included, which features some nice alternate shots.
Beauty Flash shows that Stephane Marais has a unique perspective and attention to detail that will keep you turning the pages with delight!
