The Benko Gambit has enormous appeal to those who like to take the initiative with the black pieces. Black boldly sacrifices a pawn in the opening, and in return gets a secure position, and attractive prospects both in the short term and in the long term. This book provides complete and even-handed coverage of this popular gambit, using the unique GAMBIT 'Quick Summaries' system, introducing the main themes and where appropriate suggesting a coherent repertoire of reliable lines. Other Gambit titles: Test Your Chess, The Botvinnik Semi-Slav, The Meran System, The Main Line French: 3 Nc3, The French: Tarrasch Variation, French: Advance and Other Lines, The Gambit Guide to the Bogo-Indian.

Reviews - What do customers think about The Gambit Guide to the Benko Gambit?

How many times have I been swept off the board?  Jun 23, 2002
The Benko gambit is one of the openings that often got me in trouble. This book has helped me find systems that fit my style and understand what was going on.
A book true to the learning qualities I am used to with The Gambit Guide Serie. Not too complicated, not too simple.
Useful, Comprehensive, Well-Organized  Apr 3, 2000
IM Pedersen has written a clear, comprehensive guide to the Benko and done it in such a fashion as to make it relatively easy to use right away. He organizes his information into ten chapters, with such titles as "The Classical Main Line," "Fianchetto Lines," "Dlugy's 5 f3," and so on. The "Quick Summaries" are especially useful for id'ing plans, themes, and key moves since Pedersen does not use model games but analyzes key variations and move alternatives. A powerful book!
