Publishers Description To understand the continued and far-reaching ministry of A. W. Tozer, it is important to know who he was, including his relationship with God. In The Life of A. W. Tozer, James Snyder lets us in on the life and times of a deep thinker who was not afraid to "tell it like it is" and never compromised his beliefs. A. W. Tozer's spiritual legacy continues today as his writings challenge readers to a deeper relationship and worship of God in reverence and adoration. Here is Tozer's life story, from boyhood and his conversion at the age of seventeen, to his years of pastoring and writing more than 40 books, at least two regarded as Christian classics that continue to appear on best seller lists today. Examining Tozer's life allows the reader to learn from a prophet with much to say against the compromises he observed in contemporary Christian living and the hope he found in his incredible God. "The Life of A. W. Tozer gives a behind the scenes look at the man and his message. We see God at work with hammer and chisel to shape Tozer's life into a vessel capable of influencing all who desire to walk with God. No single author has influenced me personally more than A. W. Tozer. I thank God for his influence on my life."Gary M. Benedict, President, The Christian and Missionary Alliance

Reviews - What do customers think about Life Of A W Tozer?
Excellent Tribute to a Man of Excellence Jan 29, 2010
"A Man of God" is the simple epitaph inscribed on A. W. Tozer's tombstone in a small cemetery near Arkon, Ohio. Snyder sums it up well, writing, "For him, the pursuit was over. Tozer had reached his goal." That is the ultimate life well-lived. Tozer pursuited God with a passion and when he left the earth he attained his goal. Fortunately for us, he leaves behind a body of work that is captured eloquently in this biography.
Snyder says Tozer didn't mind being called a mystic. He sought out long-neglected Christian mystics of the past and read them deeply because they were men and women who had connected with God. Various quotes from his associates mention that if you were in the presence of Tozer, you knew you were in the presence of a man of God.
The book is chalk full of Tozer quotes. He was a wordsmith who edited away unnecessary verbiage to get to the heart of an issue. Synder says of Tozer's style, "the tools of the preacher are words. Like the artist, a preacher must master his tools" (p. 109). Tozer did that through extensive study and reading. He loved collecting books from old bookstores. But his emphasis wasn't on imparting knowledge per se. "Any sermon that does not originate in prayer is not a message from God no matter how learned the speaker," Tozer told young Christians (p. 108).
I commend Synder for his scholarship and communication. He captured he essence of the man. Our lives as readers is rewarded as a result of his efforts. I believe Tozer would be pleased also. He didn't ignore his sujbects weaknesses. Their appearance just makes the man appear human and someone with whom we can relate. This is the kind of book that will enrich your life.
