Item description for Fear No Evel: An Insiders Look At Hollywood by Shelly Saltman...

Thomas Lyons contributes to the book by writing the true account of how Evel Knievel attacked Shelly Saltman with a baseball bat and deconstructs Knievel's fabrications about the crime in sharp detail. The rest of FEAR NO EVEL is written in Shelly's own voice in a warm and entertaining telling of his part in many of the defining public events of our time - including promoting the legendary Ali/Frazier fights and the career of singer Andy Williams; playing tennis with Boris Yeltzin in the former Soviet Union, while bringing cellular phone service to Eastern Europe; petitioning the Olympic Committee to allow women to compete in marathons for the first time in history; putting the first live birth on television; raising money for the eradication of Polio; helping to create the first plastic credit cards; and putting lighted signs on top of taxis.

Reviews - What do customers think about Fear No Evel: An Insiders Look At Hollywood?

Sheldon Saltman is one of the greatest promoters ever.   Jan 28, 2008
Most know him as the man Evel Knievel went after with a baseball bat. But Sheldon Saltman is a promotional genius. He was behind many of the major sporting events in the last 40 years. For anyone interested in learning this skill then learn from the best. Even today Sheldon Saltman is in high demand for his advice . He was also behind the start of the home movie video business.

As for the Evel Knievel attack Saltman breaks his silence about that terrible day and tells the truth about what happened back in 1977. Sheldon Saltman wrote a book called "Evel Knievel on Tour" and gave editorial control to Evel and his lawyer. So it was a shock to see Evel come after him with a baseball bat after Knievels own lawyer praised the book as fair. As a child I grew up watching Evel Knievel and when this happened I couldn't understand why anyone would try to kill someone with a bat. Even if the book was untrue( it was all true by the way,) no sane man goes after someone with a baseball bat .
Evel lied about many things including what was in the book. Many of the things in the book Evel said himself in other interviews. Many in the Knievel family told the same story about Evel. Because of what Evel did it cost him everything. All of the endorsements dried up because of this stupid thing he did.

Check out the book. You will find out that Shelly worked with many famous athletes including Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier. He was the former President of 20th Century Fox Sports. Shelly was also involved in the founding of the Phoenix Suns and New Orleans Jazz and was behind the Ali-Frazier heavyweight title bouts, the Billie Jean King vs. Bobby Riggs tennis match. For anyone who wants to learn about the work that goes into a big event this is a must read.

As for putting the name Evel in the title of the book, Shelly Saltman still has those great promotional skills.
Avoid  Jan 8, 2008
Cheap attempt at fame and more money by a man who puts Evel's name in his book title to increase sales. What more need be said. From the book's own description, it reads: "The following information in brief form tells the story of a man who for all his working life has been a successful entrepreneur, marketer, promoter, producer, author and creator in diverse fields of endeavors covering over 52 nations worldwide. Mr. Saltman, ..."
