Reviews - What do customers think about The Rosary: Including the Mysteries of Light?
Not What Was Expected Feb 18, 2007
Reading previously written reviews, I was expecting this to be a well recorded, meditative recitation of the Holy Rosay with gentle background music. What is actually provided is a CD that sounds as if it was recorded on pre world war II equipment, with the "group responses" sounding rushed. Nowhere is music to be found on the recordings of the Traditional Mysteries.
You'd be much better off watching Mother Angelica's daily Rosay on EWTN than spending hard earned money on this rather rushed and ameturish sounding recording.
Excellent but.... Sep 11, 2006
I have really enjoyed using this recording as an aid to my prayer life. The meditations at the beginning of each decade are meaty and well-done. The background music is lovely and not distracting.
Here's the "but" part. I bought this recording to use on my MP3 player while I walk. I generally try to do 20 decades a day while walking. If you plan to use this recording in the "usual" five-decade chunks, Joyful Mysteries one day, Luminous Mysteries the next, etc. the way the tracks are arranged won't matter much to you. If however, you want to do one decade at a time or more than 5 decades a day you need to know that the Joyful Mysteries, the Sorrowful Mysteries, and the Glorious Mysteries are all recorded on a single track each including all of the introductory prayers on that single track (for a total of three). The Luminous Mysteries recording has the decades on separate tracks. This means that if you are building a playlist of all 20 decades, you will listen to the introductory prayers again at the beginning of each set of mysteries. This is not a terrible thing, but it is something to consider. Also, if you only want to do only one decade, you will only be able to do that with ease on the Luminous Mysteries. If the Joyful, Sorrowful, and Glorious Mysteries were tracked like the Luminous ones, I'd give this five stars.
Excellent aid to prayer! Aug 29, 2006
I wanted to say the rosary for some time, but somehow never made the time. I finally decided to try for a decade each evening. Then I saw this CD at a Christian bookstore. I love it. The words are gently spoken, the background music is beautiful. Some of the music is very haunting, which just adds to the significance of the mystery. I try to play it each day which only takes about 20 minutes. But I also play it in the background when I'm busy. You can play it and pray along while you are doing chores, such as the dishes, ironing, or driving in your car. It is very peaceful. Whether you currently say the rosary or not, if you buy this CD I do not think you will regret it.
