Item description for Finding Faith: Life-Changing Encounters with Christ by Sharon Gallagher...
Overview "At some point, we need to decide if Jesus Christ is who He said He is," writes Gallagher, editor of the Christian cultural magazine Radix, in the introduction to this book. "But conversion involves more than intellectual assent to the deity of Jesus... What God wants is obedience, and that begins with an initial act of repentance." With that definition, Gallagher sets the foundation for the 48 conversion stories that follow, stories of people who turned away from the life they once knew and entered into a relationship with God based on obedience to the Bible and God's will. Some are familiar: Bob Dylan's role in the conversion of Noel Paul Stookey; Anne Lamott's intellectually humiliating "moment of resignation"; C.S. Lewis's reluctant conversion from theism to Christianity. Gallagher also wisely includes many stories of "ordinary" people that would otherwise go unnoticed by a wider public. There's drug addict Mary Phillips, who "went on a mission to find out if Jesus could liberate me." And Virginia Dost, led to faith in Christ through the unlikely route of Indian religious leader Jiddu Krishnamurti. While the stories effectively underscore the variety of ways people experience encounters with Jesus, the storytelling itself is often flat and undistinguished. Still, Gallagher does make her point: whether people come to faith in Christ through a dramatic, otherworldly incident or through a gradual, thoughtful process, those who have had an authentic conversion undergo a transformation that redirects the course of their lives.
Publishers Description Often in their late teens, people move away from religion an the traditions in which they were raised; but later in life, these same people may once again feel the need for faith and a spiritual home. Some may be looking for community, others may feel that faith is necessary for family life. Still others enter middle age feeling that their success hasn't brought them fulfilment. This book tells the story of people who, in ways both expected and unexpected have come to faith and are willing to talk about their doubts and joys. The book is designed for those who are ready to explore their spiritual heritage or begin a new spiritual pilgrimage.

Simple Expression of eternal truth Jan 3, 2002
Religious authors usually in order to improvize or differentiate from others make a story that is simple into a complex structured theology and also make it into some psychiartric life changing phenomenon.
The parables in the Bible are simple and easy for everyone to understand. You will find the same in Sharon's book. The reason I can say that is because my conversion story is in that book. I gave the author complex facts in my life integrating my life experience with a technology outlook etc.
But Sharon could write my story and relate it as a simple expression of the word of GOD spoken thru' my life to me and to others.
But my story still retains the flavor of my technology outlook every bit of it. I could then understand how GOD can speak the simple truth depending on how we want to look at it (our perspective).
An Uplifting Book for Troubled Times Nov 30, 2001
I couldn't put this book down! It is a compliation of touching stories that reminded me that there are others beside myself struggling through the journey of faith. This book also helped me to remember that God is working in our lives and can bring the good out of any situation, which is a much needed message, especially in light of our country and society's current status. I would recommend this book to anyone as a source of encouragement and as a reminder of God's love.
