Item description for Grandpa's Hook by Scott Degelman...

Overview
"America already has a tomb for the unknown soldier," Lawyer Blake Nepper told reporters. "Can we not have one obituary for the unknown fetus?" Ward Brown's daughter, Mindy, is newly pregnant. It's Thanksgiving of Mindy's senior year of high school. She has already been granted a college academic scholarship. She is no longer involved with her baby's father. Ward Brown fears the dastardly inevitable; he needs a miracle, will try anything to stop his daughter from aborting her baby. With help of a shrewd insurance CEO and his troubled lawyer, Ward Brown takes out a controversial life insurance policy on his unborn grandchild. As his daughter Mindy Brown endures her senior year, delaying an inevitable abortion, the world awaits a civil trial which could topple Roe v. Wade. "A Grisham-like thriller, Grandpa's Hook engages legalized abortion much like Uncle Tom's Cabin engaged, and helped end, legalized slavery." -Jedd Hafer.

Scott Degelman came to know Jesus in 1998 at 29 years old. He then transferred his lifelong passion for writing into serving God through the arts. A published poet, speaker, novelist and songwriter, Scott is Director at a Colorado Boys' Home where he has counseled for eight years. He is married with four children the last five years. He will attend a final year of Bible College after he stops having kids. Scott has recently initiated a pro-life ministry entitled Save One Soul, its purpose to unify all pro-life sites, and to propagate art for the pro-life cause. Scott came to know that, born in 1969, he would have been aborted had abortion been legal at that time. His subsequent passion for seeing abortion once again outlawed, and his obedience to God, created this novel. Scott and his family reside in the beautiful mountain town of Woodland Park, Colorado.

Reviews - What do customers think about Grandpa's Hook?

Excellent Story, worthwhile read!!  Aug 15, 2009
Being a filmmaker and a Christian I am always looking for positive and uplifting stories. Stories that have moral, that can be used as a source of outreach and ministry. I find many sources of material that people say "this is a good story with Christian characters and morals, with a positive outcome". Each time I get excited thinking I have found the "one", but each time I am disappointed over and over again. People who attempt to create art with a Christian theme often fail because they try to appeal to much to the popular culture while being 100 % faith driven, what usually happens is they end up with a muddled mess. They often do more harm than good. The Christian character often come off as poor and dumb, as if they are the only ones who need faith. Not here, not with this author. He has created one of the most interesting set of Christian characters I have ever seen. They are middle class, intelligent and our protagonist in this story is not some careless teen filled with angst and rebellion, but rather the valedictorian of her graduating senior class. She made a mistake, even with the good life she lives. Now she faces a dilemma and thinks as any teen would, first to keep it a secret then take care of the problem and move on. We all know in real life it doesn't work that way, and this teen is on a real life journey to learn that lesson for herself. I love the father, I love the way he acts and reacts to the situation, he is like many of of us real life dads, the kids think they have pulled something off without him knowing it, but he knows, he is just intelligent enough not to let her know he know right away. There is suspense, drama, hurting and healing. And through it all the message of the importance of human life born or unborn shines through. And in the bigger picture, the message of the gospel shines through, we all need a savior, we all need to be forgiven, we all need to forgive, we all need Jesus! Scott Degelman has produced a brilliant, thought provoking and intelligent work of fiction that parallels real life so closely it shouldn't be called a work of fiction at all! Everyone should buy this and read it for themselves and then have someone else (including any teens you have in the house) read it too. You won't be disappointed. Definitely worth the price of admission.
