Reviews - What do customers think about KJV Old Scofield Study (1917)-Pocket-Black/Burgundy Bond?
Poorly made Nov 8, 2006
I give this two stars for the price, and the content is great.
The binding is irregular. The top spine is about 1/4" high. The bottom spine is about 1/8" high. The lower spine covered the gilded line, which makes it look like it was manufactured by a blind person, not to put down the visually impaired. It was poorly made. Where and how was this Bible put together?
It stinks ... literally! It really smells bad. Sep 9, 2006
I am utterly surprised at this. My first impression was great. It came in a nice little box that would protect the Bible. When I took the lid off, I was shocked that it didn't smell like leather, but rather "live cow", or maybe more specifically: manure. I figured I was imagining things and I put it on the floor to "air out". I could still smell it while I was sitting on the couch!! It had to go back into the box! I had to have a friend open the box to see if I was nuts. She said that if she had not seen (smelled) it for herself, she would have thought that I was exaggerating. I do not know if this is restricted to a single item, or an entire shipment.
If it weren't for this, the Bible would be pretty nice. The leather "feel" is nice, although the cover is a bit stiff (doesn't bend well). The overall Bible size is nice, although smaller than the numbers on this description, since these are for the box that the Bible comes in. The font is readable (I have 20/20), but a bit small for reading in bed at night. The red-letters are a bit more pink than red, so they are harder to read.
Bottom line, it is going back (this site is kind enough to make the return painless) and it smells too bad for me to want to learn about the rest of the features for a more thorough review. I hope someone else's experience with this Bible is not the same as mine.
