Best Bible you could own. Oct 20, 2009
My husband has this same bible and I had to have one. Mardel's doesn't carry the Scofield Study Bible. I have looked every where. I was so excited to find the Scofield on this site. The notes and back ground on each book of the bible has helped me as I study. I have also bought this bible for my son.
A great way to study the bible as a whole Jul 30, 2009
This bible will put at your fingertips things woven throughout the bible such as dispensations and covenants which are not seen clearly without a grasp of the whole. The footnotes define the crazy names you can't pronounce and the names of God. I would recommend this bible to both the new Christian and the seasoned one.
Awesome! May 13, 2009
I had just recently bought the Scofield Study bible III (NKJV), and though I really like it, I wanted one in the ESV translation. I had no idea that it was even made. I stumbled upon it on this site, but doing an intensive search for ESV Bibles, study Bibles, etc. Lo and behold, this popped up - there were only 2 left. Well, as hard as it has been to find an ESV study bible in the store, I decided to snatch it up. I wasn't disapointed.
I love the ESV translation - it continues the KJV/NKJV tradition and is very easy to understand, but it is not a thought for thought translation. It is a literal translation.
I love the black basketweave/burgendy leather (imitation?) not sure. It seems to be very solidly made. I love the Scofield study notes - its not like many of the study bibles today though. If you are looking for a bible with extensive study notes, I suggest John MacArthur's study bible as it is excellent (however, he only has KJV/NKJV/NASB versions avaiable).
So, if you are looking for a regular bible that you can carry anywhere and itsn't too heavy, but yet has some excellent notes, this is your bible. Most study bibles are very heavy and difficult to carry everywhere.
I know the previous reviewer didn't like the dispensationist notes, but I love reading them. Even if you don't agree with dispensationism, you should know what the different views are out there, and this is a good way to find out. I happen to agree, so I like it.
*** a suggestion for those of you who are having difficulty finding something to underline your bible without bleeding through the page....I discovered the new sharpie pens(they come in red, black, blue and green /and a yellow highlighter). The pens I find do NOT bleed through these thin sheets. I'm not as convinced about the sharpie highlighter though - it seems to bleed a little, just as any other highlighter does. I just use the underlining now instead.
Excellent bible - very difficult to find though - I notice it takes 1-3 months now to get it. I'd take advanted when they come in stock though.
I love this bible.

I like the ESV, and I like the study helps. The dispensational notes are, to me, useless. However, there are many useful helps that are not associated with the preill ideology. Anyone interested in a good study Bible, this would be a good one. It is wise to always keep in mind that the notes of man are always to be checked against Scripture, and put to the test. This and the NKJV I have used for a while.
Finally a Great ESV Study Bible Oct 4, 2008
The Schofield III ESV Study Bible is an excellent tool for studying the Word. The essentially literal ESV translation combined with the wonderful Schofield study notes make this my favorite Bible and I use it daily.
The chain reference system covers a nice variety of topics and is easy to use. The notes and articles, which are in text in the III, really complement the included ESV notes. The chains with the cross references make this the best study Bible I've used so far. Another wonderful feature is that the reference numbers are placed in the verses right by the word that the reference is going to send you to. Thus, you actually look up what you think you are going to look up (topic wise) as opposed to many study Bibles with the cross references grouped just kind of at the end of the verse.
The articles and notes are theological in tenor, but not too scholarly for the average reader in my opinion, as opposed to commentary type notes. I think this gives one a cleaner understanding of the subjects without the possible biases of an editor.
If your goal is to learn more about God's word and to understand it and some of the doctrines better this is a great choice. If you are looking for something that is suggestive as to how things apply to your daily walk it will still be profitable, though the Life Application series (not available in the ESV) might be more for you.
