Make Sally McCain your book-based partner... Jan 12, 2008
I have known Sally Arent McCain for over two decades, but my first impression of her on our first meeting is as clear as if it were yesterday. She had contacted me about the possibility of mutual referrals--my patients to her acupuncture practice and hers to my medical care. I knew nothing about alternative medicine at that time and fully expected to meet a sixties' style hippie at our lunch date.
Imagine my pleasure and surprise when I was greeted by a tall, well-spoken woman, impeccably dressed, who presented a clear and intriguing picture of her practice of acupuncture over our meal. Her enthusiasm about her work was catching. That day was the start of a most satisfying professional relationship, one that I took great pride in sharing with my patients. Her wonderful book, however, is not just about appearances, it is full of invaluable information about the nuts and bolts of the business of health care practice.
This book could be subtitled "Everything They Never Told You About the Practice of Medicine in Medical School" (or acupuncture, chiropractic, naturopathic, etc. school). If I'd had this handbook when I hung out my shingle years ago, I could've saved myself a lot of anguish, one ugly contract dispute, and a fair amount of money.
The first thing I did when I went into practice was go to an antique store in Denver and buy a wonderful double pedestal desk. The first thing you should do is order this book. Then go get your desk!
