Reviews - What do customers think about New Interpreter's Dictionary of the Bible Volume 3 - NIDB?
Great Resource Nov 7, 2009
A great resource (the whole set) by top mainline scholars. A must have for anyone still depending on the "old" set.
New Interpreters Dictionary is Finished! Aug 12, 2009
I began my "quest" in collecting the New Interpreters Dictionary four years ago on a subscription basis, and this final edition (s-z) was released this month (August 2009). It now proudly sits with my others, I consider it as much an encyclopedia as a dictionary.
I especially appreciate this set because it is both contemporary - including current archeological finds - and useful. Each passage has the search word, its pronunciation, and then the formal Greek or Hebrew text for the original word following. You don't have to know Greek or Hebrew to appreciate it, since it immediately explains the word and gives the context and passage in which the word (if uncommon) is found.
This series contains information both the canon and non-canonical texts, and is one of the most thorough resources I have found to date. While obviously this book is aimed at libraries and Biblical scholars, it is a wonderful reference series for churches, pastors, and anyone who regularly needs background on scriptural texts.
