He is professor emeritus at Dallas Theological Seminary and has served as adjunct professor at Philadelphia Biblical University, Bibelschule Brake, and The Criswell College.
Ryrie was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and grew up in Alton, Illinois. He went on to complete his Doctor of Philosophy (1953) at the University of Edinburgh.
Ryrie joined the faculty of Westmont College in 1948 and eventually became dean of men and chairman of the Department of Biblical Studies and Philosophy. He returned to Dallas Theological Seminary in 1953 to teach systematic theology, but left for several years to serve as president of Philadelphia College of the Bible, from 1958 to 1962. Upon returning to Dallas once again, he became dean of doctoral studies until his retirement in 1983.
Reviews - What do customers think about NIV Ryrie Study Bible w/CD-HC?
Owned a Ryrie Study Bible Since Early 1980s Jan 6, 2010
I have had a Ryrie Study Bible since the early 1980s, KJV first then NASB. NASB was purchased somewhere in the 1980s. Ryrie notes have been my first point of reference since then. So would highly recommend Ryrie Study Bibles.
Purchased an NIV version of Ryrie Study Bible just about 2-3 weeks ago. I think it has the same notes as way back, but has a big upgrade grade by adding maps and timelines and very helpful charts through out the books of the Bible. For example, Acts had the timelines at the beginning of the book and the map of Paul's 1st-3rd missionary journeys embedded right where the text of the journeys are so you don't have to flip back and forth to follow it.
The DVD included is super. It gives for free some of Dr. Ryrie's books: Basic Theology, The Holy Spirit, Survey of Bible Doctrine, Balancing the Christian Life. It also contains all of the Ryrie Study Bible notes, outlines, maps, and charts. Also included are Lewis Sperry Chafer's books: Grace, He That Is Spiritual, and the Kingdom in History and Prophecy (I think is out of print). C.I. Scofield's Study Bible notes are also included.
Purchased from this site for $14 but it a great buy at current price.
