Item description for Sitting by My Laughing Fire by Ruth Bell Graham...

These poems, first published as a collection in 1977, are from all phases and periods of Ruth Bell Graham's life. Throughout her life, she found comfort and encouragement in poetry. When she was searching for guidance, when she was lonely or emotionally weary, when she found joy in God's presence, when she sought courage for a difficult challenge, when she felt laughter inside, she expressed her thoughts in a poem. "I wrote because, at times, I had to. It was write or develop an ulcer-or forget," she said. "I chose to write. At times I even wrote for the sheer fun." She always insisted her poems were an outlet for her feelings and were not intended for publication. But after she was persuaded to select from a half century of her poetic writings for this book, she heard from people everywhere who were uplifted with the insights, struggles, and joys found in her poetry. Now you can experience the same encouragement and share it with others in this very special book. Numerous family photos taken over the years-including some never before published-add a rich context to this edition, creating a treasured memory book of the life of this remarkable woman.

Reviews - What do customers think about Sitting by My Laughing Fire?

The Wind Behind Bill's Wings!!!!  Oct 5, 2007
Ruth Bell Graham was the beloved wife, partner, companion, and soulmate of the legendary evangelist with a heart of gold and a connection to God that I envy with all my heart. The Grahams' marriage is an amazing example of what marriage might be for those of us who yearn for that kind of partnership. Ruth's poetry is filled with visuals such as personal pictures, trees, leaves, flowers, and biblical quotes. It's not preachy nor written to create such a reaction. Ruth's poetry is a quite testament of faith, love, peace, and happiness from her personal life with Billy Graham. We all know and love Billy Graham not as a typical evangelist but as an extra-ordinary human being. His wife, Ruth Bell, was his rock and this book is a wonderful tribute to an extraordinary lady that some of us have never met but her spirit, her poetry, her love of life, her love of Billy and their marriage as well as their commitments to God and preaching around the world. Their marriage is one of few that I consider to be a rare equal partnership between two people that loved each other in the worst and best of times.
