another good Nama Beach High book Dec 19, 2005
Laura Duffy is back in the fourth book in the Nama Beach High series. Gigi Palmer, the girl who was in part responsible for Laura's broken jaw in book 2, is back-and with a vengeance. Laura and her friends have taken a pledge to stop the hate, one person at a time, as outlined in book 3. In this book, that pledge gets tested. When Stevie decides to run for Student Body President, Laura's group turns upside down. Gigi is up to no good, yet again, when she announces her own campaign to run for Student Body President. Gigi's promise to the faculty-of having a good, clean campaign is nice-on the surface. Gigi's first plan of attack starts after Laura speaks up in her history class during a debate-a debate of which gets her into trouble. When the group is seen praying during lunchtime, Gigi gets the ammo she needs to set up a "separation of church and state" rally on the campus. Laura's friend Celeste gets the rally ended early when she speaks out to Gigi and Laura's group takes the fall all of a sudden. When the principal and some of the advisors set rules up against Laura's friends, Joy Beth and Trent turn on her. And Stevie no longer wants to be seen in public with Laura after Gigi runs Stevie's faith into the ground. All that's left is Celeste, who turns on Duffy after she begins to feel that God's timing is not worth it. Laura begins to feel betrayed until she meets a freshman named Eve and a hot guy named Duck. Both are not what they seem, and, after Laura uncovers a sinister plot to get Ms. Isaacsen fired, she must find a way to get Eve and Duck to speak up for the truth and prove her mentor's innocence at the same time-and all this without saying a single word, for her vocal cords are shot from talking too much. This is perhaps one of the weirdest of the books in this series, but still worth a read.
