Reviews - What do customers think about Just Like Mary?
Excellent and Orthodox Introduction to Marian Doctrine Oct 30, 2007
This book packs a lot of solid Catholic teaching about Mary into simple and engaging language for young children. The book has short re-tellings of Biblical and traditional Catholic stories about Mary's life including the Immaculate Conception, her dedication to God as a young girl, the Annunciation, the Visitation, the Nativity, the Presentation at the Temple, the Flight into Egypt, Jesus' Preaching at the Temple, the Wedding at Cana, Jesus' Crucifixtion, Mary as Mother of the Church, and praying the Hail Mary and the Rosary. This makes an excellent addition to a Catholic homeschool program or for supplementing a parish CCD program.
Excellent resource for parents, teachers and children Sep 15, 2005
I highly recommend all three books in this series (A Child's Guide to the Mass, Just Like Mary and Little Acts of Grace). I use these books frequently in my Religious Education class and also give them to my children to read during the homily. Nice artwork (simple, not traditional, but not insipid either), very simple and accurate descriptions of what the Catholic faith actually teaches and truly inspirational. I hope there will be more in the series!
Just Right for Ages 2 to 6 Nov 12, 2004
The modern imprimaturs aren't always a guarantee of sound Catholic doctrine, but Just Like Mary deserves the imprimatur it earned.
Can Catholic doctrine be simplified for ages 2 to 6 and yet retain its depth? Gortler and Piscitelli prove that it can. This book will be a pleasant surprise for Catholics who aren't afraid of doctrine. I was so pleased that I included the book as a necessary resource for a children's retreat, It's a Mystery: The Secret Garden published by Catholic Heritage Curricula. Parents using earlier retreats requested that I include more material for children under the age of five, and Just Like Mary fit their requests perfectly.
If you are searching for a treasure to share with your children or grandchildren on a Marian holy day, a gift for a godchild, a resource for your parish, or an addition to your home school library, this book is an excellent choice.
