Item description for Angel of Death by Rosanna Filippello...
Death was nearby, blood everywhere Angelo and OMalley ducked under the crime scene tape and trudged through the garbage-strewn alley. Rats, the size of cats, scurried out of their way, but didnt go far.
The smell told them that death was nearby. Angelo pulled a pair of latex gloves out of her pocket and slid her hands into them. There was blood everywhere. Squatting down to get a better look, she lifted the cardboard that covered the corpses face. His eyes were wide open; the rats had not gotten that far yet.
Well? her partner asked, holding his nose and standing a few paces behind her.
Hes not going to bite you.
OMalley did not reply.
Its definitely Mr. Robbins, she said, poking him in the chest with her pen. His body has been here a little over forty-eight hours, but no more than seventy-two.
Jesus, how could you tell? Its November and cold as a witchs tit out here. That smell means hes been in decomp for a while.
You have a way with words, OMalley.
Do you think his neutering killed him?
She lifted his shirt and looked at his chest. The stab wound to the heart did it. The castration was done post mortem.
Do you dream blood and guts too?
All the time. Keeps me from thinking about you naked, she joked.
Cute. Really cute.
Ignoring him, Angelo pulled a mini recorder from her pocket and pressed the record button. She studied the body. He was on his back, staring into an unknown void. He was bloated from expelled gases and his skin was turning black from the pooling of blood due to gravity.
Bodys gone soft, she said into the recorder. Rigor has come and gone. Lividity pooling in his back suggests he died here. The mutilation was done post mortem. A stab wound to the chest was the most likely cause of death. Well have to confirm it with the medical examiner. Whoever did this was fast. Very fast. Justin was caught off guard. He wasnt the type who kept close friends. However, he knew his killer.

"I was hooked from page one on" Apr 19, 2005
What a GREAT story! I was captivated by this story right from the very first page and held hostage until after I had finished reading the very last page of the book. I kid you not!
Rosanna Filippello is such a talent! She has a unique way with turning the most common words into poetic beauty. I'm stunned she has not been discovered before now to tell you the truth.
If you are a person who enjoys this fast-paced and exciting genre then (take my word for it), "ANGEL OF DEATH," is without doubt the book for you.
Warning: Do Not Start This Book Unless You Have Time To Finish It, Because You Won't Be Able To Put It Down. That's a fact!
Who Better To Write A Police Mystery Than A Police Officer? Dec 15, 2004
In the first book "Angel of Death," followed by a second book "Angel of Justice," in the "Angelo Mystery Series," penned by veteran Philadelphia Police Officer Rosanna Filippello, the reader is left anxious to read more.
The novels give readers an inside view of the Philadelphia police force at work. They allow one to see Philadelphia, "the city of brotherly love," in all it's splendor. It's a view that only a native to the area could offer. Filippello goes on to allow readers to glimpse the night life, the streets after dark, officers working diligently throughout the night to catch a serial killer.
These books bring out the best of the Philadelphia police force with their portrayal of the heroic and self-sacrificing men and women ever vigilant in their surveillance of the city. Filippello, offers insight into these officers, both male and female, subtly bonding as family while working shoulder to shoulder to protect the sleepy, unsuspecting city of Philadelphia and the people they love.
Angelo shows her power and intelligence as she leads, follows up on clues, and ultimately bags the bad guy. We glimpse her compassion and insight into the criminal mind as she interviews one suspect after another. She has a knack for reading people and the ability to put differences aside when work calls.
Anyone who reads these books will be anxious to read the third one in the series. It is obvious to those of us who know and work with Rosanna Filippello that she is a rising star in the literary world.
Just keep in mind that "Angel of Death," is only the first book in the "Angelo Mystery Series," and readers should buy other books is the series because they are real page turners..
