Item description for The Spirit of the Liturgy (Milestones in Catholic Theology) by Romano Guardini...
Overview When this little book first appeared, it immediately brought wide recognition to a young theologian who would become an important force in the renewal of theology in the twentieth century. Originally written in 1918, this profoud reflection on the nature of liturgical worship still stands as a guiding light for today's renewal of worship and prayer. In limpid, even poetic terms, it clarifies the underlying principles and existential implications of the belief that when Christians join in the Eucharist and other liturgical celebrations, they do so not as discrete individuals but as interconnected members of one People of God.

A must have for sacramentalists Aug 26, 1999
This book was originally written in 1918 or thereabouts, but has stood the test of time. Guardino's short (100 page or thereabouts) exposition on Liturgy is profound and on par with Alexander Schmeman's "For the Life of the World" (an overview of sacrament). If you loved Fr. Schmeman's book (and viewpoint) of sacraments, you will love Guardino's view of Liturgy.
