The Complete Guide to the Book of Proverbs is better. Jan 5, 2000
This booklet on Proverbs combines the complete text of the New International Version, the study notes from the Life Application Bible and 13 fill-in-the-blank study lessons. The NIV was translated in 1984 and the Life Application Notes were written in 1986. A lot of progress has been made in Bible archaeology and scholarship in the last 13 years. For a more current and more in-depth commentary on Proverbs read THE COMPLETE GUIDE TO THE BOOK OF PROVERBS by Cody Jones (1999). The comments are interesting and very readable and put things into a historical setting. It features 6 translations in parallel including several more recent versions: New Living Translation (1996), New Revised Standard (1990) and New Century (1991). Numerous historical drawings and photos give you a sense of the culture of the time. Also many of the mysteries and riddles are explored.
