Publishers Description
The need of the hour in Christian leadership and in the lives of true believers is godly discipline and personal accountability. Roger VanDerWerken, a US Naval Academy product and Chaplain with the "First to Fight" US Marine Corps writes from experience. He skillfully and effectively applies proven military principles to the Christian life and ministry to help effectively equip us as warriors of the King of Kings. -Robert R. Boardman, decorated WWII combat Marine, Navigator staff for 55 years. The military code of conduct provides guiding principles for men and women who go to war for their Nation, whose duty is to serve in what one former prisoner-of-war called "difficult circumstances." Roger VanDerWerken's keen insight is that, as Christians we are at war every day, and in order not to be buffeted by circumstances, we need principles to guide us in doing our duty as disciples of Jesus Christ. Using the military code as a framework, this book examines the scriptures and distills from them a standard of conduct that serves as both a goal and a guide to the hard work of obedience to God. This is not a study of parallels between military life and Christian life. It is much broader and deeper than that. This is a no-nonsense book about what it means to be a Christian, and about how to lead by first following. -Brian J. Tucker, LtCol. USMC Chaplain VanDerWerken shows how time-honored military leadership principles are of Biblical origin. Honor, moral courage, and integrity are essential qualities for leaders in any profession. Code of Conduct For Servants of the Most High God offers a road map on how to live a God-honoring life. -J. T. McFarland, LtCol. USMC "As a chaplain myself who ministers daily in the midst of an institutional setting, Roger VanDerWerken's book hits a home run Not only are his stories and examples a gold-mine of resources and pastoral helps for others; but on a deeper level, his ability to translate the gospel into terms that the institution (and particularly the military) can understand comes shining through ... For all those who serve the Lord in an institutional setting (no matter your religious affiliation), this book should be required reading -- Chaplain Carey H. Cash, LCDR, USN, author of A Table in the Presence

Reviews - What do customers think about Code of Conduct?

Should be required reading for chaplains!  Aug 20, 2004
As a chaplain myself who ministers daily in the midst of an institutional setting, Roger VanDerwerken's book hits a home run! Not only are his stories and examples a gold-mine of resources and pastoral helps for others; but on a deeper level, his ability to translate the gospel into terms that the institution (and particularly the military) can understand comes shining through. To talk about salvation and Christ with young soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines is one thing. But to present the life-changing truths of the faith in a way that borrows the very best from the military's own traditions, gives the message of Christ a winsome appeal that many who wear the uniform will not be able to resist. Indeed, it my own limited experience serving as a military chaplain, it seems that one of the greatest ways to build bridges is to utilize the paradigms that the military culture uses every day as a way to share the gospel. In this way, pillars of the armed forces like the code of conduct, core values, oath of office, and leadership principles, all become more than mere structures for discussion; but pathways to proclaiming the love of God. For all those who serve the Lord in an institutional setting (no matter your religious affiliation), this book should be required reading! Thank you Roger!
