More About Roger Patterson & Patterson Roger
Roger Patterson earned his B.S. Ed. degree in biology from Montana State University. Before coming to work at Answers in Genesis, he taught for eight years in Wyoming's public school system and assisted the Wyoming Department of Education in developing assessments and standards for children in public schools. As a former evolutionist, Roger is well acquainted with the mounting pressures that educators face from pro-evolutionary co-workers, administrators, publishers and parents.
He encourages all who read this book to pray for courage for Christian students to challenge evolutionary ideas in their classrooms, and to pray for the men and women who are teaching tomorrows leaders, today.
Roger Patterson was born in 1933 and died in 1972.

Reviews - What do customers think about Evolution Exposed: Your Evolution Answer Book for the Classroom?
Good book for the Christian Student May 26, 2007
This is a good book for the Christian student in public school as it will give you lots of ammo in a hostile environment. Most public school science teachers only parrot what they have been told and their arguments all come crashing down when they are made to think about reality. This book will prepare the student in dealing with the irrational-evolutionaries.
Excellent Book! May 6, 2007
This is an excellent book for people who are tired of the attempts to "convert" Bible believing people, to the religion of evolution. It takes at LEAST as much faith to swallow evolution as it does creation. It is nice to read something exposing the many lies in various public school textbooks, without having to do the extensive research oneself. All the facts presented are checked out easily enough... (Grab your child's biology book.) Individual people are going to believe what they choose to believe. However, it is good to note that whether one claims to be an evolutionist or a creationist, both "theories" require a HUGE amount of faith. Thank you for a book which presents the "other side".
This book insults the reader's intelligence Feb 1, 2007
I was afflicted with this book as a "free bonus" from an ebay seller when I bought three science text books from her. I suppose she hated the thought that someone would prefer unalloyed reason and sanity and truth, so she tossed in this insane superstitious occult nonsense as a kind of virus to try and make me sick with ignorance. I am glad she did, however, and I am glad I read the absurd drivel, as it is an excellent example of Creationism at its best (which is to say, its worse).
This book is a rehash of fraudulent claims and out-right lies that have been debunked and exposed for decades: some have been known to be false for over 100 years, and it is a gross insult to the reader to be subjected to them.
The writers would have their victims believe that evolution is not an observed fact (which it is); they they proceed to offer bogus and fraudulent "knowledge" and "information" and "discoveries" that pretend to refute the "belief" that evolution did not and does not occur. Worse yet, they clearly demarcate between evolution and evolutionary theory in some of their baseless assertions, and then deliberately confuse the two in a few of their other false claims.
Worse by far, the book makes false assertions under the pretense of asking scientists "questions," and then attacks those assertions as if scientists had made them. This is known as a "strawman attack:" the writers do this because they know that the positions supported and defended by scientists are unasailable, so the writers must create false positions that scientists do not support and defend, and then attack those. It is far easier for Creationists to destroy positions that nobody is defending.
All in all this book is extremely insulting. The book assumes the reader is an ignorant uneducated superstitious savage living in the 8th century, with no access to valid information.
Evolution Critics Exposed: No Answers For Any Classroom Jan 5, 2007
In Evolution Exposed, Roger Patterson, aided and abetted by publisher Answers in Genesis (AiG), explicitly denies the last two centuries of biology, geology, and paleontology (among other scientific disciplines) and attempts, without success, to debunk popular biology textbooks. Unfortunately for the Young Earth Creationist (YEC) cause the only thing that Patterson manages to expose - with about as much subtlety as a bladder heavy drunk outside a bar - is his profound ignorance and misunderstanding of evolution and the overwhelming scientific evidence that supports it.
Evolution Exposed is not about the science. It can't be. It is about ideology and dogma, in this case a convoluted and unreasoning strain of Christian fundamentalism, that abracadabra's the cosmos and all living things into existence about 6,000 years ago - the ultimate just-so story.
Folly is fast-tracked when "baraminology" the "classification of living things through the biblical concept of the created kinds" is offered as a superior alternative to phylogeny and taxonomy. We are breathlessly told about "a group of creation scientists called the Biology Study Group" who are "currently attempting to classify animals within created kinds ... based on several criteria, including genetic information and breeding studies." No results from this group are presented - hardly unexpected since creation science (a functional and intellectual oxymoron) faux-research programs and faith-based agendas are limited to quote mining and the deliberate distortion of mainstream science. Phylogeny, based on comparative anatomy, paleontology, and phylogenetics is a vibrant discipline that has given humanity extraordinary insights into the relationship of all life on Earth, past and present. Baraminology is nothing more than a pseudoscience on par with phrenology, astrology, vitalism, chiromancy, pyramid power, and dianetics.
The biggest howler concerns mutations and their supposed inability to add information to genomes. We are told that "Mutations are not able to add new information to the genome. Not a single mutation has been observed to cause an increase in the amount of information in a genome." If Patterson even glanced at any genetics textbook he would quickly learn about gene duplication, recombination, insertional mutations, transposition, and translocation - all of which can and do produce new genetic information - not to mention point mutations that can impart new functions to existing genes as well.
One instance of gene duplication resulting in additional information and functionality is the hemoglobin/myoglobin family. An ur-gene for an oxygen-carrying protein duplicated, leading to myoglobin which oxygenates muscles, and hemoglobin which carries oxygen in red blood cells. A subsequent duplication of the hemoglobin gene resulted in alpha and beta forms. Additional duplications produced hemoglobin-alpha and hemoglobin-beta gene clusters. The genes within these clusters are different, as a result of subsequent mutation after duplication, and express themselves at different stages of development. Gene duplication and subsequent divergence are observed in the laboratory - consequently an evolutionary causation based on processes known to occur today is inherently more plausible than invoking a superfluous supernatural agent or agency.
Every genome which has been sequenced and studied to date exhibits similar artifacts - many different types of mutation (noted above) are followed by independent evolution and differentiation of duplicated, transposed, or translocated copies into multiple genes with distinct functions. The endemic propaganda espoused in Evolution Exposed, which ignores these naturally occurring and readily observable phenomena, and then goes on to claim that any increase in genetic information is impossible, is fundamentally flawed and thoroughly dishonest.
Error is compounded when we are told that "The typical neo-Darwinian mechanism of mutation, chance, and time cannot generate new information." This IS NOT the "typical neo-Darwinian mechanism" since natural selection, which is a decidedly non-random process, was intentionally omitted. Patterson can't even get the mechanism right, but then creationists never have cared about mechanisms, evidence, controlled experiments, or the explanatory power of theories.
Folly continues as Patterson asserts "The eyes of squids and vertebrates are an example where the eyes would be called homologous, but there is no common ancestor to account for the similarities." Unfortunately for Evolution Exposed genetic evidence discovered by the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg, Germany, strongly suggests that a common ancestor of squids and vertebrates (similar to a current ragworm) possessed the ciliary and rhabdomeric opsin photoreceptor proteins utilized in squid or vertebrate eyes. The rhabdomeric type and its opsin (r-opsin) was recruited into the visual system of arthropods and cephalopods while the ciliary type (c-opsin) was recruited for vertebrate vision. It also appears that vertebrate eyes transformed the rhabdomeric cells into retinal ganglion cells, which function in the output of the retina; consequently the vertebrate eye appears to be derived from both photoreceptor cell types. Squids and vertebrates shared a common ancestor and even utilize the same Pax-6 gene to regulate eye development.
I could go on but my brain needs a respite from the copious coffers of mind-numbing dreck imprinted on every page of Evolution Exposed. Here's an apropos quote from Carl Sagan:
"Science is more than a body of knowledge; it is a way of thinking. I have a foreboding of an America in my children's or grandchildren's time ... when awesome technological powers are in the hands of a very few, and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; when clutching our crystals and nervously consulting our horoscopes, our critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what's true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstitions and darkness."
Evolution Exposed is one long slide into superstition and darkness. Faith should inform - not conceal, deceive, falsify, hide, mislead, or misrepresent.
Fair and balanced treatment of the subject Dec 5, 2006
Compares all the different school textbooks and their treatment of the subject of evolution. The book points out all the flaws and mistakes used in explaining evolution, including the variations in dating, carbon dating, and sedimentary deposits.
