Item description for The Gold Covenant by Roberta Clark...

Journalist Katherine Nikulasson's father, Gustav, noted historian and archaeologist, has been killed in a plane crash. Some of his papers, now missing, lead Katherine to question the veracity of the accident report, and the loyalty of her father's longtime friend, Sheppard Wilde. A search for the truth takes Katherine to Wilde's estate in England where she uncovers a conspiracy that shakes her to the core. Unaware she has now become a pawn in that conspiracy, an unwitting Katherine is kidnapped by Enrique Quisette, leader of an art smuggling syndicate, a man who will destroy anyone who stands in the way of what he wants. Wilde knows what Quisette wants. And he knows he must find Katherine before she's of no further use to Quisette. Using every resource, from the lush underworld of smuggling to the grimy back streets of Athens, Wilde begins a race against time. It is not his only challenge. For three powerful people, each risking his life, once signed an extraordinary agreement. Its intent: Protect the heritage of an ancient people, one of the world's richest remaining treasures. Now Wilde must not only rescue Katherine, but uphold the secret he has sworn to protect in.

Reviews - What do customers think about The Gold Covenant?

A globetrotting turbulent epic!  Mar 17, 2007
This was an entertaining meticulously researched tale of intrigue. Clark brilliantly poured on the detail to give the reader a sense of place in every scene, from the type of furniture inside an English countryside estate to the treacherous terrain of the Turkish mountains and finally to the claustrophobic caves where the novel's spectacular climax takes place. There is plenty of witty banter between the main characters and their adversaries and some shocking scenes that left me with sweaty palms. This is how a page-turner should read.
fast-paced thriller   Mar 8, 2007
Renowned historical archeologist Gustav Nikulasson dies in a plane crash. The investigation concludes it is a tragic accident occurred. TV stars of the show Power Line Ivar Whelan and Lawrence Halvern meet in New York with Gustav's daughter Katherine, a reporter; they show her dad's last work, classified research papers with some pages missing, as they want her to join forces with them. She refuses, but assumes that the only person with access to Gustav's notes would be his friend and associate Sheppard Wilde.

Katherine journeys to Sheppard's English country estate where she hopes to uncover the truth behind her father's death. However, before she can act on her Wilde suspicions, dangerous art smuggler Enrique Quisette arranges the kidnapping of Katherine. Once he knows she is abducted Wilde fears the daughter of his best friend is expendable if he fails to rescue her soonest. Only because Quisette thinks she knows the secrets he wants involving an ancient race is why he is keeping her alive. He also realizes that to save Katherine he would have to break a vow he made to protect the ancient people; thus he too accepts she is expendable.

THE GOLD COVENANT is a fast-paced thriller in which readers like the beleaguered heroine will wonder who is friend and who is foe. The competitors with the exception of the heroine and to a degree Wilde will do anything including kidnapping and murder to obtain the ultimate treasure. Though somewhat convoluted as the story line races from New York to England to Athens and beyond, fans of exhilarating action-packed thrillers will hitch a ride on Roberta Clark's enthralling tale.
