Item description for DYING TO LEAD by Robert McKenna...

Praise for Dying to Lead "Every Christian who is in a position of leadership needs to read this book Rob McKenna is a stellar researcher who has the unusual knack of being able to communicate his findings in ways that are not only understandable, but engaging and motivating. In my opinion, you run the risk of being dead in the water if you don't read Dying to Lead." -Les Parrott, Ph.D., Founder of and Author of Trading Places "The heart felt cry of every Christian leader I know is to somehow move their organization to a level of excellence on a scale that can only be measured in a kingdom scale and economy. Rob McKenna's work provides important language and thinking which advances leadership in new and important ways." -Steven G.W. Moore, Executive Director, The M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust Leaders are visionaries. Leaders are servants. Leaders create results. And says, Rob McKenna, leaders sacrifice. Far too often, sacrifice is missing from our thinking. This book - with its emphasis upon real-life vignettes, biblical insight and personal reflection - redirects us back to the center of true Christian leadership. -Alec Hill, President, Intervarsity Christian Fellowship "I'll say right now that I was deeply moved from reading Dying to Lead, and that I've never read anything quite like it. It is written from the heart, and is both challenging to managers and practical at the same time. Dying to Lead is an important book for managers." -Susan Arnold, Manager, Starbucks Coffee Company Dr. Robert McKenna is Chair of the Department of Industrial/Organizational Psychology at Seattle Pacific University and President of McKenna & Associates. His mission is building character, competence, and calling in today's emerging leaders. He lives in Kirkland, Washington with his wife Jackie and their sons, Aidan and Ryan. Reviews - What do customers think about DYING TO LEAD?

Leadership at its best   Nov 18, 2008
Excellent book that will challenge any leader who wants to be effective and relevant in the world today. The book challenged me to look at my motivations and equipped me to lead others. The shorter chapters kept my attention and didn't over work the issue. Don't pass this book up.
Challenge yourself to be vulnerable and intentional as a leader.  Nov 6, 2008
Dr. McKenna's book, Dying to Lead, is an excellent book for all to read who truly want to be the best leader that they can be. I found both practical and thought provoking nuggets throughout the book, which has an easy to read flow that you can finish in a few days or read it a chapter a day. Either way, you will be challenged to look within yourself and determine how you can lead better with introspective relflection and positive intentional action to those you lead.
young adult, non leader....challenged by "Dying to Lead" and LOVED it  Oct 21, 2008
My initial motivation for reading this book was because I work with Dr. Rob McKenna, but after reading it I have since recommended it to all of my college and young adult age friends because of the profound impact it has had on me.

Although I do not see myself as a leader, the book challenged me to look into WHO I am and reflect on my past experiences in relation to how I work and relate to others; and furthermore be intentional about the leader I want to BECOME. Through reading this book I realized not only the impact I have on others, but also the significant impact leaders have had on me, realizing that the majority of leaders in my life have been negative and being challenged to learn from those experiences.

In Dying to Lead, Dr. McKenna is vulnerable, honest, and encouraging, while providing insight into his own leadership journey and positively challenging the reader along the way.
affirmation for new leaders  Oct 19, 2008
This book was more of an affirmation, than a challenge. It's easy to read and easier to be inspired by the principles that lie within the covers. The text draws attention to eternal motivation and the benefits of sincerely caring for those who we lead. Sound scripture support and novel points of view connect the spiritual to the menial tasks of leading. This would make a great gift for a new leader, struggling with focus.

Robin Henrickson, Community of Christ Mission Center President, Chicago
Great book...great message  Oct 15, 2008
Rob McKenna writes a strong book here -- I found the text intelligently written and easy to understand. Leaders of all backgrounds will find wonderful nuggets of wisdom and knowledge in this text. I sincerely recommend it for those on a journey through the mire of leadership, and will find Dr. McKenna's voice on leadership not only comforting, but also charismatic. Dr. McKenna is a broad thinker, and his commentaries on leadership reflect his vision, and more importantly how such vision can be applied within organizational settings.

-Dr. William Marelich, Associate Professor of Psychology, CSU Fullerton
