Item description for In Search Of America's Heartbeat by H Mottram Robert...
Grief and loss are not the end of the road. Gifts found along life's way can make it abundantly worth living, as this couple discovered on the ultimate road trip. They lived the secret dream of countless American couples; a year on the road-with no timetable-that took them more than 30,000 miles into the far-flung corners of the nation. Along the way they came face-to-face with personal grief but also with the warmth and humanity of America and its people. A grandson of Russian immigrants and award-winning journalist celebrates America in a wonderful, upbeat story chock-full of Americana. It will tell you things about your country you probably didn't know. In Search of America's Heartbeat will appeal both to real travelers and to those whose journeys are mostly vicarious.

This book will make you want to hit the road Feb 6, 2008
Bob Mottram's book will stir up your wanderlust. It reminded me of "Blue Highways" by William Least Heat Moon with its glimpse of an incredibly rich, diverse, and fascinating America that exists far from the big cities and well beyond the attention of most of our media. The best compliment I can pay this book is that I didn't want it to end.
This is a great handbook for exploring North America Jan 30, 2008
I greatly enjoyed my vicarious journey with the Mottrams "In Search of America's Heartbeat". I will have this book in my truck camper whenever I travel. Although I have visited many of the places discussed, I discovered that I had not been nearly as observant. Mr. Mottram provides an accurate discussion of the geological and climatic aspects of each region as well as an expert discussion of the plant and animal life observed. In addition, his discussion of the history and culture of many places is very intriguing. I highly recommend this book for not only those wanting to emulate the lifestyle the Mottrams experienced during this journey, but also those just wanting to know more about their continent.

This is a collection of heartwarming stories spun by a master author/writer. It will evoke tears of laughter and saddness, as the reader follows a path through the amazing backroads of America.
