Item description for Needs-Based Evangelism: Becoming a Good Samaritan Church by Robert D. Pierson...

Overview
By meeting needs of people through intentional ministries, churches will grow; but more importantly they will fulfill their biblical mandate to care for those who are hurting and suffering. Being a Good Samaritan church begins with the leadership. It requires an absolute commitment to address the needs of people in order to invite them to become disciples of Jesus Christ. But in order to compete with and appeal to unchurched people in today's secular and consumer-driven society, the church needs to be entrepreneurial in its method of evangelist outreach. In this book, Rev. Robert Pierson, shows how churches can better organize ministry in order to be effective witnesses. By meeting felt needs of people through intentional ministries, the church will grow to be sure; but more importantly it will fulfill its biblical mandate to care for those who are hurting and suffering.

Reviews - What do customers think about Needs-Based Evangelism: Becoming a Good Samaritan Church?

Good for a Limited Audience  Oct 1, 2009
I am writing this review in response to the books categorization as missional.

Pierson writes a handy guide but I don't feel it is properly considered a missional church methodology. This is a helpful book for large mainline churches already operating in what Roxburgh would consider to be the "performance zone" (see The Missional Leader ch. 3) and reaching middle-class consumers. While reading I suspected this book to be from the mid-nineties era as it is made up more of church growth than missional methodology and most of the examples come from those types of churches. If you're a part of one of those churches described above this book has good reinforcements and may move your congregation one step closer toward the missional church method. Otherwise I'd recommend Guder's "Missional Church."
