Power-Glide German Junior Adventure Course with Book Sep 21, 2004
Before buying this product I researched it quite extensively and was impressed with the innovative approach used to learning a new language. Unfortunately, the actual product was very disappointing. The concept is great, but the execution of the German version (I can't say anything about the other language versions) leaves much to be desired. I am a native German speaker and not only do they use non-native speakers on their CDs but the books are riddled with mistakes. I was not able to open a single page (at random) in the books without finding not just one, but several errors on said page! Needless to say I am returning the product. I did try and contact the people at Power-Glide and asked to speak to a manager. I was told that he would return my call the next day. It is two weeks later and I still have not heard from them... Regarding the CDs: I am wondering why non-native German speakers were used. Hearing the language spoken without accent, seems to me to be one of the easiest ways to pick up the pronunciation correctly - unfortunately the main character has the worst accent, often mispronouncing words. Also sometimes terms are used that are archaic and do not represent "normal" spoken German, unless one wants to sound like a somewhat out of date dictionary. Once again, great idea, but disappointing execution, which so easily could have been done better. It makes me wonder what else has been haphazardly thrown together and I will think twice about using Power-Glide for any other language course, since I can't necessarily trust its correctness.
