Treadmill Training for Runners - a YES purchase Mar 2, 2008
I like to purchase books that are good resources and can take me from a "know nothing" beginner to "a knowledgeable" person gradually while providing a good variety of options to use when I reach my goal. This book is exactly what I have been looking for since I purchased my treadmill last year. A treadmill is a good investment for my health and wellbeing, and it takes up a considerable amount of room in my home. I wanted to learn how to use and maintain it properly to get the maximum amount of use from my investment.
If you think you would like to own a treadmill, I recommend you read this book first, as it includes a buyer's guide. It gave me comfort knowing I made a good purchase, but I wish I knew the information before I bought. If you do not intend to buy a treadmill but want to use a treadmill at your gym to maximize your training, this book will help you. It is a good all round resource suitable for the whole family.
This book can take me from a beginner to marathon runner, if I choose to, while utilizing all of the features that my treadmill offers. I found it interesting to learn that with the advances in treadmill design that many professional athletes supplement their outside training with a treadmill. I am now working on the 5K program because I found I had progressed enough since my treadmill purchase to start this level.
It is full of tips and fitness programs that you can follow day by day and week by week until you meet your goal. It offers many ideas for the recreational and fitness runner, while offering information to athletes on how to utilize the treadmill to enhance their training and racing performance. It has various training programs (including weight loss), endurance, speed endurance, speed, hill, and long run workouts to keep me motivated for years to come. It describes perquisites for programs so that you know if you are ready to start a new challenge. It also incorporates some circuit training information.

Covers many different kinds of uses of a treadmill. Mostly it just freed me up to find my own way.

The truth about treadmill training Mar 28, 2007
I have coached runners for over 20 years. Several years ago I began using the treadmill as a training tool for competitive runners. I received a lot of criticism from others who did not understand how useful a treadmill can be for competitive training. Finally, there is is a book that gives the facts, both postive and negative about treadmill training. I have seen a few other books on treadmill training, but the others were either a commercial for a brand of treadmills or simple training books for walkers. I found this book to be very useful and helpful to my athletes. The one thing I wish this book had is specific recommendations about which brand of treadmills are best. There is a buyers guide, but no specific recommendations. Maybe that is nitpicking, but it would have been helpful. I would have given it five stars if it had those recommendations. But overall a very good book.
Made me a runner Mar 26, 2007
This book was a great help to me in becomeing a runner. Due to my schedule I am usually unable to run outside. I must run on the treadmill, but could not motivate myself to do it. This book gave me a lot of excellent tips on the mistakes I was making when running on a treadmill and also how to correct them. And even more importantly it helped keep me motivated with several different training programs and a whole slew of workouts. I am never bored now. I have been able to improve my fitness enough that I now consider myself a runner. I even trained for a weekend 5K using the workouts here. I highly recommned this book if you must do a lot of your training on the treadmill.
