Item description for The Theology of the Body in John Paul II: What It Means, Why It Matters by Richard M. Hogan...
Overview Why has Pope John Paul II's Theology of the Body become such a "hot button" topic in the church today? In this illuminating and comprehensive commentary, Rev. Richard M. Hogan explains why these teachings speak so powerfully to a new generation of believers. At the heart of John Paul's series of talks is the unchanging truth that we are created in God's image, and so are called to love as God loves and to express that love in and through our bodies. Marriage, sexuality, celibacy, virginity, the resurrection of the body-all of these issues are covered within the pope's expansive framework.

Fr. Hogan's book is well written and a very welcomed help to better understanding the Theology of the Body. It is a great text for beginners and people who are well versed in the Theology of the Body. If you are interested in learning more about John Paul's teaching on marriage, family, celibacy, anthropology, and sexuality than this book will be a great guide for you.
This would serve well as an introductory text for someone wanting to read Man and Woman He Created Them: A Theology Of The Body. It would be an excellent college level text for a class on the subject. Sometimes readers are daunted by the philosophical and theological depth the John Paul II brings to the table, but this text will help any reader who wants to relationships with God, self, and others.
