Reviews - What do customers think about Shadows Of Paris?
I finally found a book I wanted to read. Aug 16, 2004
Many thanks to Swank for writing Shadows of Paris and Simon's Shadows. You gave us all a voice. I grew up attending schools just like the ones that Richard Swank describes in his books. In fact, after reading his first book, Simon's Shadows, I walked away wondering if Mr. Swank had actually been writing about my schools. I remember being mistreated and disrespected by teachers who couldn't care less about me and did not want to be teaching me. I remember teachers demanding respect from me while they were busy yelling at me and belittling other students. As a result of these experiences I didn't get much out of my education. So when someone bought Simon's Shadows for me and told me it was a book that I HAD to read, you can imagine what I thought. Reluctantly, I read began reading the book, and found myself captivated by the characters. I was inspired by the fact that someone had actually written a book about students like me that wasn't negative and demeaning to me. I couldn't believe that someone had actually written a book from the perspective of a low-income, poverty stricken kid. I read Simon's Shadows all the way through in four days. It was the first book I had ever read all the way through. At that moment I vowed to read everything that Mr. Swank ever writes. As soon as Shadow's of Paris came out, I bought it, and I read this book cover to cover in just two days. I couldn't believe it, but Shadows of Paris is even better than Simon's Shadows. This latest book by Swank is suspenseful, intriguing and captivating. There are so many twists and turns to this book that I thought I was on a roller coaster ride. I loved this book. Once again, Mr. Swank was able to give a voice to all those kids who are left to fend for themselves. This book is a thriller with a twist. I had no idea what a psychological thriller was until I read this book. I highly recommend all of Swank's books to every teacher who believes that low-income, high-risk, "bad" kids, aren't worth the time it takes to educate them. We are worth the risk, and Mr. Swank proves it. I also recommend Swank's books to all those "bad" students out there who are being led to believe that there is nothing out there for them. There is a whole world out there for us, it just takes someone to believe in us.
How the saga could continue. Aug 16, 2004
I was interested to see how a saga could continue despite the death of the main character. Richard Swank pulls it off nicely. Shadows of Paris is better than Simon's Shadows with new threats and the dark sides of the characters exposed. With just the right mix of suspense and loyalty, it will show people a new type of thriller. It will keep you on the edge until it's over and make you anticipate the next book.
My life was put on hold. Aug 16, 2004
I received my copy of Shadows of Paris, started reading, and my life went on hold until I finished the book. I couldn't put it down. It mesmerized me. I found myself calling in sick to work just so I could finish it. It was quite different from Simon's Shadows, however it maintained what seems to be the theme of the series. This book took so many twists and turns and the ending surprised even me. Shadows of Paris starts with tragedy and ends as a psychological thriller. There should be a separate literary category for these book. These books beyond general fiction. One can't tell what parts of the books are true or how much of the books are actually fiction. I can't wait for the next book in the series. I hope it's not the last. Great Job Swank! I'll buy everything you write.
