Item description for Luther's Works, Volume 20 (Lectures on the Minor Prophets III) by Martin Luther...
Overview This volume contains English versions of Luther's Lectures on Zechariah according to the Altenburg text (Latin, 1526) and according to the German text (1527). In the preface to the German version Luther expresses particular concern for the layman. Recalling that it seems to be the fashion of the day to write commentaries on the more difficult books of the Bible in order to impress people with scholarship and enterprising allegory, Luther points out that he has chosen to treat Zechariah to show that even in the more obscure prophets the most important point is the "simple faith in Christ." Luther began his lectures on the book of Zechariah in the last weeks of 1525 and completed the book in early 1526.
