Reviews - What do customers think about Gay Children, Straight Parents: A Plan for Family Healing?
Beyond Belief Mar 17, 2007
From a recent review of this book:
"When my husband and I found out that our son was gay, we were devastated beyond belief. We tried everything - from simple exorcism to electroshock therapy and Chinese water torture to more elaborate methods like the Brazen Bull - to expel the demon from his soul, but nothing seemed to be working."
This is horrifying beyond belief, and a good example of the need for education about homosexuality. These monsters' son should have been taken away from them long before they indulged in this kind of abuse.
My heart goes out to him and I hope he will find a way to accept his sexuality and heal from the wounds these abusive parents undoubtedly inflicted.
The things people do in the name of God and "decency" is beyond evil.
Gay Children, Straight Parents: A Plan for Family Healing Mar 8, 2007
This book was excellent. It not only offered clear explanations and examples it offered a plan for parents to follow in regard to healing this issue. It offers much hope. Remember it's about love and s/he who loves the longest and the strongest wins -- and this is a true statement. I see it working in my own family
Worth the read Dec 25, 2006
I read Mr. Cohen's book with great interest and hope. As the general public and media tries ever harder to convince us that it is more appropriate to be politically correct about homosexuality than explore its causes, Mr. Cohen shows that you can change, "if you want to". One of the core premises in the book is that there are root causes of Same Sex Attraction and everyone has different reasons for feeling the way they do. The compelling evidence and discussion that it is not genetic gave me renewed hope that because "no one is born with SSA", those that struggle with their sexuality can change.
The suggestion that someone MUST change is never presented but rather the book is a way for parents to understand more of where their child is coming from. It frequently entreats the parents to 'accept their child' and love them... while attempting to learn the root causes of the emotional wounds that trouble the SSA child. The book lays out how to understand the root causes and how to help their child with love.
Father needing clarity Dec 14, 2006
What are you to do when your son tells you he's gay? You need information and lots of it. You feel very uncomfortable just giving him reassuring affirmations when he seems more distressed than you. Richard Cohen gives you everything and more in this book, both from a personal and a professional point of view. His message is hope and total knowledge, not just the perspective upheld by most of our culture today. This book is a lifesaver for the whole family. Love and truth lead to changes of heart and even more amazingly to "real change". All counselors, psychologists, therapists, ministers, priests, rabbis, physicians and especially those interested persons should read this excellent and truthful book.
Unconditional Love & Understanding Dec 7, 2006
I have read this book twice. This review is long overdue. I was thrilled to finally know the truth. The main stream media chooses one view. I find it VERY sad. I am thrilled to know the possibility for my son to change is real and there is much support for change. The book is excellant. When I found my son had SSA (same sex attraction). I knew there had to be a reason. This books gives the many underlying causes for SSA. One who has SSA may or may not know the root cause. The book helps families and friends how to best love their child and support them NO MATTER if they CHOOSE to change OR not. This book will help the reader grow in compassion for those who struggle with these feelings. It also lists many resources for the reader and those who struggle with SSA.
