Literature meets erotica; erotica, meets romance Sep 13, 2007
This is a comic, randy romp about Jim Smythe, who both suffers and benefits from priapism (and the women who he meets benefit and suffer as well). Jim is less often seducer, more often willingly seduced, when he meets Molly, a younger woman--beautiful, composed, innocent but not naive--and falls deeply in love with her. Unfortunately, on the same evening that Jim is smitten he is also bitten-- on the toe by a poisonous spider. This leads to complications for Jim that are howlingly funny. Meanwhile, Molly is also in trouble. Her employer has set her up as the fall guy for an illegal brokerage deal. Jim must find both a new way of being with women if he wants Molly but also he must track down Molly herself. Jim's quest is both for Molly and for a way to stop falling into the beds of other women. Helping and hindering Jim along his witty, whimsical path are an heiress carrying a Beretta; a lovesick, teenaged private eye; a hard gambling, hard nosed chauffeur; a film noir styled cabbie; and Jim's long necked, long necking with him female assistant.
This novel is great fun to read: gorgeous, witty prose inhabits the clever plot line. But in addition to the enjoying the joyful writing, you will (or at least I did) come away from the book wondering about deeper subjects: the nature of change, the nature of sex, how to be in love while remaining true to yourself, what does love mean?
Deeply, unexpectedly romantic Sep 12, 2007
This book is about Jim Smythe, a man with a very active but somewhat unsatisfying sex life, who, through a series of comic adventures falls deeply, profoundly in love. It is a redemption tale, a romance, a comic novel, a detective story--very inventive, funny, funny, funny, and finally, profound.
Incredibly funny, sexy romp Aug 30, 2007
This is one of those rare books that will make you laugh out loud while reading. The author has a gift for funny situations and hilarious writing. On top of that, you get sex scenes that will make you want to put the book down and go search for a member of the gender of your choosing. But don't! I read this book over the course of one day, because I just couldn't put it down.
The book bridges several genres in a unique and creative way. It is a detective story, a farce, erotica, the story of a man redeemed, and finally, most compellingly, a love story. Give it a whirl!
