A True Inspiration! Sep 15, 2009
There are thousands of stories about people's struggles and how they overcame them. Regina's story has inspired me more than anyone's. "Breaking My Own Heart" is two stories; overcoming abusive relationships and life's obstacles, and the journey of developing a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. I couldn't put the book down and have read the last few chapters over and over again.
Not enough stars...! Sep 10, 2009
You don't have enough stars to rate this book--it is one-in-a-million! Definitely keeps your attention. At first glance you think it would be like most other autobiographies, yet no other one compares to this woman's story! You must read this book!
Prepare to be Inspired Sep 9, 2009
Breaking My Own Heart is the kind of book that you can't get out of your mind. Not just because it's the author's unfathomable life story, but because it challenges you to consider your life, your choices and your future. Growing up, physical and emotional abuse was a daily routine for Regina Dior and her four siblings. The book begins with descriptions of her childhood that included bullyng, teasing and jealousy; not that much different than yours, mine or someone we know. But then Regina walks the reader into a dark world where her mother asks her to commit murder. It's at this point you almost forget you're reading an autobiography as you get lost in a story that you can't put down.
I must admit that I found a few pages of the book difficult to read, because of my strong feelings about the subject matter. There are times in the book when Regina describes incidences of rape and child molestation. I understand that it happened and it's important to the story. I just wanted to jump through the pages.
I would recommend this book for anyone who wants to be inspired to overcome life's challenges. It would especially make a great gift to anyone allowing their past mistakes to control their future. It is a realistic story that admits to set backs and disappointments during the change process. Regina emphasizes the power of choice in changing your life. If you're looking for the inspiration to change your life, reading this book is great choice.
There are not enough words to describe the impact of this book. It's a story that once picked up, you can't put down. Regina's experiences carry you through the lowest depths with her, and back up to the top again. It tugs at your heart and makes you feel so encouraged. It's a book I want to read again. Definitely an inspiration to me, and a 'keeper.'
BREAKING MY OWN HEART Mar 23, 2009
I met Regina Dior when she came to my rescue with a stray cat about to give birth; she took her to the hospital, had her spayed, shots were given, she cleaned her up, kept her overnight, and brought her back to live with me. Her love and concern for animals, and people, is second to none. Her story explains her painful, abusive childhood/adulthood, and makes it clear that no matter what obstacles, heartbreaks, or letdowns we face, with faith and trust we will survive. The book keeps you enthralled; you'll find it hard to put down as each chapter gives you ensight into the pain and disappointment she faced in her life. Regina made it, she survived what some of us could not. I recommend this book to anyone who needs encouragement to overcome life's struggles and to heal emotional and physical pain.
