Item description for A Reason for Spelling - Level D: Student Workbook (Reason For Spelling) by Rebecca Burton, Eva Hill & Leah Knowlton...
Overview No one likes to learn--and be forced to memorize--things that they feel have no application or purpose. A Reason for Spelling removes the stumbling block of "useless" work with their richly integrated spelling workbook. Filled with contemporary theme verses, personal writing activities and scripture verses, this course also integrates spelling with reading, writing, and other language arts skills. The student worktext is filled with a variety of fun games that will help students master each week's spelling list. They will edit sentences by identifying and correcting misspelled words, write sentences teachers dictate, proofread, practice alphabetical order, fill in missing letters, and complete additional exercises. The colorful lessons in this workbook are broken down into 10 components: preview, word shapes, hide and seek, other word forms, fun ways to spell, working with words, dictation, proofreading, games, and journaling. In these sections, students will explore word meanings, learn tenses, discover different forms of the root word, learn punctuation, and complete dictionary practice. Each unit contains five weekly lessons, each with a set of 18 words. Level D words include: bloom, drum, thread, forward, unknown, footprint, destroy, enjoyment, simple, possible, finally, evildoing, impossible, and others. Arranged in a test-study-test sequence, students will learn through immediate correction of their work. 207 pages, softcover non-reproducible, consumable workbook. Grade 4.

A Reason to use... A reason for Spelling Jul 11, 2007
I have found it!!! I am so excited about this book that I had to share. I am absolutely amazed at the brilliance of this book. We homeschool, and my youngest (who's a 4th grader) really struggles with spelling. This book is fun, interactive, and colorful. It gives them a reason to want to learn!!! The best part of this book, is that it has the same format year to year, so my two homeschoolers can have the same assignment; IE: Lesson one, pages 6&8... and that decreases my workload as well. Buy this with confidence! It's fabulous. BTW.... I often times buy curriculum without the Teacher's Manual to save money. Do yourself a favor and buy the TM since it is a wonderful help. Some of the lessons are based from the Teacher Manual, so without it you'd have to skip parts of the lesson.
