Great Dictionary, but don't buy the 10 vol. set. Nov 13, 2009
Spanish is the love of my academic and linguistic life, so I just had to have an RAE dictionary. I bought the ten-volume set because it was a little cheaper. My advice? Spend the extra few bucks to get the handy two-volume. It's kind of a pain to have to cart all ten volumes around (if you're a cart-around-your-books nerd like me), and also it is harder to lay the slim volume flat on the desk or table. It doesn't always stay shut because it doesn't have enough weight in its pages to keep it open flat. Just some logistical concerns--no problem AT ALL with the dictionary itself, except that I might enjoy a little more etymological background on the words (a little more akin to the OED, perhaps). But that's neither here nor there. Take it from the Neophyte: buy this dictionary, but not in ten volumes.
