The Parable of the Prodical Son Oct 18, 2008
We have heard many sermons on the "Pordical Son" and all are just really great and excellent. This book, however, is the first read (other than the Bible) that sheds a clear light...a hundred watt bulb...on one of the great needs of all people today and that is forgiving those who hurt you, then all of us really working to forget that hurt, and to all, as stressed in this book, moving strongly on to the more or most important priorities of life. "Be a positive thinker". Read and love the writings of David Rayenhill author, missionary and pastor/teacher in "Welcome Home".
A Far Country - An Alienation of the Heart Oct 15, 2008
"Welcome Home" by David Ravenhill provides a fresh approach into the classic parable of the prodigal son from the teachings of Jesus. The book begins by describing the parable in light of a contemporary family setting.
Short fast moving chapters draw the reader into the parallelism of today's youth growing in their giftedness and ministry, seeking Godly counsel eagerly seeking more but soon, "not many days later...he gathered everything together" to go to a far country. Ravenhill sees the far country as an alienation of the heart. He used Solomon as another example of a son who inherited much but desired more and soon his desire for God was replaced with a desire for strange gods. He warns of the perils of prosperity without purpose.
The chapter entitled "The Journey Home" and "The Father Ran" beautifully describes the joyous reunion of father and son, of a son's confession and a father's acceptance and forgiveness.
Each chapter closes with opportunity for the reader to digest and reflect on the thought provoking truths of the chapter. This contemplation allows the reader to assimilate this solidly based Biblical teaching.
G. Campbell Morgan's classic book "The Parable of the Father's Heart" is included as Part 2 of "Welcome Home." The book closes with a final application of the parable and a charge to enter into an intimate fellowship with the Lord.
Ravenhill captures the essence of a father's unconditional love for his children. He writes with the prayer that the reader will discover the incredible love, mercy and grace of God the Father and experience personally the joy of accepting His forgiveness and acceptance.

Good book about how God wants all of us to return to Him when we fall or fail. He is always ready to forgive and accept us back to Him.
