Item description for Love Starts with Elle (Low Country) by Rachel Hauck...
Overview She's the last of five sisters to find true love. So, when Elle Garvey's wide receiver-turned-pastor boyfriend, Jeremiah Franklin, proposes, she answers an enthusiastic, "Yes." Until . . . she discovers the engagement comes with unexpected sacrifices.
But every relationship requires compromise, and as Jeremiah takes on a large Dallas pastorate, Elle's life purpose and calling is challenged. As she stays behind in Beaufort, South Carolina to plan the wedding and sell her beloved art gallery, doubt shadows her engagement decision.
Meanwhile, New York lawyer Heath McCord needs a change of scenery and moves with his young daughter to the low-country with dreams of starting over and writing a novel.
As Heath renews his hope and heart, Elle's life begins to unravel. Crushed when Jeremiah ends their engagement, she heals morning by morning, praying in a dilapidated chapel, searching for passion and purpose.
In the midst of crisis, God's love ignites her heart, and as her friendship with Heath blooms into love, Elle understands beauty always rises from the ashes.
Elle's living the dream--but is it her dream or his?
Elle loves life in Beaufort, South Carolina--lazy summer days on the sand bar, coastal bonfires, and dinners with friends sharing a lifetime of memories. And she's found her niche as the owner of a successful art gallery too. Life is good.
Then the dynamic pastor of her small town church sweeps her off her feet. She's never known a man like Jeremiah--one who breathes in confidence and exhales all doubt. When he proposes in the setting sunlight, Elle hands him her heart on a silver platter.
But Jeremiah's just accepted a large pastorate in a different state. If she's serious about their relationship, Elle will take "the call," too, leaving behind the people and place she loves so dearly. Elle's friendship with her new tenant, widower Heath McCord, and his young daughter make things even more complicated.
Is love transferrable across the miles? And can you take it with you when you go?

What is LOVE ACTUALLY!! Find out in this book! Nov 6, 2008
I LOVED EVERY MINUTE of this book. From the very first page to the last I delighted in Elle's life and her family, and you will too. Rachel Hauck has captured my heart with Elle's story. It's filled with fun, unforgettable characters, situations that made me laugh out loud, and parts which were thought provoking. Rachel drew me into Elle's life, and her dilemma. Rachel answers some questions that we may have asked ourselves while reading. Questions such as: "Just because we have feelings of love for someone does it mean that we were meant to marry the person?","What is real love anyway?", "Does everything go smoothly just because you have given control to God?", and "Is there such a thing as a social Christian?". Be prepared to stay up late so that you can finish reading this book. You won't want it to end, I know I didn't.

More Than Just a Story Nov 2, 2008
Love Starts With Elle is more than just a great story. The spiritual thread of this wonderful novel hit me right where I was and changed me. This is a wonderful read that has the potential to impact your eternity.
wonderful read Oct 24, 2008
I am really on a non-fiction kick this year, and starting to prefer non-fiction actually. However, it doesn't hurt once in a while to put my feet up with a nice, warm, fuzzy novel. Rachel Hauck provides wonderfully for such times with romances that go way beyond mushy feelings and dive into real problems with realistic characters. While I am still stubbornly not a romance fan, I do appreciate that Rachel Hauck's stories are a far sight more realistic characters than a lot of Christian romance.
One of the things I particularly liked about this plot is that it addresses the matter of extricating oneself from an engagement with a really unhealthy person. I see an awful lot of people gloss over or completely ignore warning signs because they're so desperate to marry, or too embarassed to call it off, and then coming back a year or even months later with serious complaints about their spouse. It's like Dr. Laura says "If you know it's a man-eating alligator, don't bring it home and expect it to behave like an affectionate poodle". Or something to that effect. Fortunately, in this book, Elle recognized the man-eating alligator and was willing to make a hard decision that ultimately resulted in her happiness. Would that more people in real life had that kind of discernment and courage.
Delightful book! Oct 23, 2008
Take a look at this delightful book! It is a sweet story with some real life struggles in it, but for those of us who like a sweet romance, you will enjoy this book. Elle (whom we met in Sweet Caroline) is engaged to be married! She is ready to rip up her life, give up her plans, but things fall in the path of perfection and she starts to wonder why she feels like everything is wrong. When things get really hard, she discovers through an old friend how to really pray and bring her requests to God, even though life does not look so good at the moment. Discouragements are there, but good friends are as well. You will fall in love with Elle as I did....(and it is pronounced like the Letter "L") I especially enjoyed her dad, who said he would not give up one of his girls for any son! I do not want to give away too much of the story, but Jeremiah and Elle have some relationship struggles and a new friendship God brings into her life of a widower and his young daughter shows her many different things about herself and her outlook on life.
I loved the story as Elle was real to life and you could relate to her so well!
A great read Oct 23, 2008
LOVE STARTS WITH ELLE started slow and I was starting to get frustrated with the story a bit. I read this in the hospital when I was recovering from surgery and it seemed Elle's problems were so trivial. However, as I kept reading, the faith message in this book really reached out and touched me--a strong message from God that I needed to hear. I'm so glad that God brought this book into my life when He did.
Once I got past the beginning of the book, I enjoyed getting to know Elle and her friends. This is a sequel to Sweet Caroline, but it is not necessary to read these books in order. The reader will want to read Sweet Caroline though to find out the story of that romance as it is alluded to in LOVE STARTS WITH ELLE. Don't miss this romance. It is sure to minister to you in ways that most romances don't.
