Item description for Conformational Proteomics of Macromolecular Architecture: Approaching the Structure of Large Molecular Assemblies and Their Mechanisms of Action (With CD-Rom) by R. Holland Cheng & Lena Hammar...
Biological processes involving large macromolecular assemblies are thought to be a dynamic consequence of cooperativity and metastability. The folding of a peptide chain creates local environments from which "activity" can emerge. In the same way, the assembly of large molecular complexes creates dynamic features that would only be feasible in a large construct. The biological implications of such adaptation will be explored as it applies to the static quasisymmetry situations, as well as to the dynamics of structural transitions. The current wealth of solved high-resolution complex structures makes this an appropriate time to summarize the state of the art in structural dynamics of living architectures. With contributions by leading scientists in the fields of virology, bacterial flagellum, cytoskeleton, ribosome and giant enzymes, this important book presents cutting-edge knowledge in the various fields of structural proteomics of very large molecular assemblies, with the focus on their mechanisms of action.

Reviews - What do customers think about Conformational Proteomics of Macromolecular Architecture: Approaching the Structure of Large Molecular Assemblies and Their Mechanisms of Action (With CD-Rom)?
A real surprise of a textbook Sep 30, 2007
I was loaned this book initially, and started reading it expecting something as dry as Dulbecco or a myriad other textbooks in virology. Frankly, I have never read an advanced textbook that is as well put together to cover the ground and yet does so in wonderfully readable style. Really an excellent book. These guys should do more textbooks. Their editing style is just wonderful.
The only negative comment I have is that most chapters have some weird typos and grammar. But I chalk that up to both editors speaking English as a second or third language, and many of the contributors being in the same boat. But that is really quite minor. If they could get someone involved in editing their books who is an excellent English proofreader they would polish their gem.
I strongly recommend this book for anyone interested in understanding viruses.
