Item description for A Challenge for Modern Minds by Pravrajika Vivekaprana...
A Challenge for Modern Minds presents a collection of lectures by Pravrajika Vivekaprana of Sri Sarada Math, India, selected and edited by Edith D. Tipple.
Pravrajika Vivekaprana exemplifies spiritual strength, a strength which is coupled with sincere humility. Her straightforward presentation of Vedanta and its relationship to human experience offers a way of understanding the practical steps one needs to take on the path to Self realization. The lectures in this volume build upon the premise that the ancient principles of Vedanta form a necessary and viable approach to contemporary life. Viewing the mind as an instrument that can and ought to be brought under our control, the author explores the steps through which we can achieve that control. Her lectures invite each of us to actively take up this challenge, the mastery of which is deemed to be our human birthright.
While individual lectures may be read on their own and in any sequence, together they suggest a natural progression. Beginning with a consideration of Eastern thought in Western culture, succeeding lectures explore various aspects of Vedanta, often from different angles. The final lecture focuses on individual spiritual commitment, which is necessary if we are going to meet the challenge of effectively understanding ourselves and the world around us.

Looking Into Reality May 25, 2003
Using examples too familiar to brush aside, Pravrajika Vivekaprana takes us on a journey. Not a journey of physical travel, but a journey of the mind as we are moved to examine the nature and basis of our preceptions.
For many of us this is a new experience. We have simply accepted our perceptions as they have been presented to us, with little or no awareness of our role in shaping/creating what we see. Realizing our role as creator, we discover, is an all important step along a path we each travel, the journey to Self-discovery.
The author brings the discoveries by the ancient seers of India before us, not as vague ideas to be believed, but as principles to be realized. This is a book for all to read, filled with seeming simple yet complex ideas which are bound to engage modern minds.
Linking Spirituality and Science..... Apr 29, 2003
When I was flying for the airlines, I carried a favorite book with me to read on my many layovers. That book, The Tao of Physics by F. Capra, linked the Eastern spiritual philosophy with the new Physics of the 20th Century.
Now that I am retired, another book joins this one in explaining the link between spirituality and physics through the construct of space and time. Instead of a physicist writer, we have a nun explaining this Truth from her very deep understanding. A Challenge for Modern Minds has now become another favorite book.....Many thanks to Pravrajika Vivekaprana.
