Item description for The Lost Ears: 25th Anniversary Edition by Phillida Gili...
"ONCE UPON A TIME...there lived a teddy bear named Harry, who was only two and a half inches tall." All the best stories begin with magical words---and what happens to this absolutely adorable little bear has enchanted young readers for a quarter of a century. After living a happy if uneventful life in his owner's pajama pocket, tiny Harry has a big adventure: he's accidentally put in the washing machine and drenched, spun, and hung out to dry. Even worse, he has lost his ears! Now poor Harry's kept in a dark drawer with all the other broken toys. Only the kindness of a little girl might set him free again... The beautiful, softly-colored illustrations capture the world from a bear's point of view---and create an expressive character who will win kids' hearts and sympathy.

Great "new baby" book Mar 10, 2008
I read the premise of this sweet story and even though I had never read it in all the years its been published and this site bore no reviews I took a chance an bought it simply cause my daughter cherishes her teddy bears. "The Lost Ears" is the story of a tiny little bear that lives inside the the shirt pocket of a little boys pajamas but one day the pj's are tossed on the floor and taken to the wash with the bear still in pocket! so tiny bear is suddenly whirling around in a washing machine hes confused and disorientated and he hates the taste of the soapy water and before he knows it hes sitting on a clothesline and although hes feeling better hes still not quite sure whats happened to him but that couldn't prepare him for the image of himself in the mirror after hes finally dry cause all the sudden hes missing his ears! The boy seeing how ridiculous his tiny teddy looks ear-less decides to just throw him into the closet until one day when a very curious little friend of his starts rummaging through his toys in the closet and stumbles upon this cute little bear and decides that she could easily give him new ears and does ...perfect little ears made of felt and a little coat to keep him warm on cold days and even a little scarf. This book is a precious little tale after reading this short story all I could imagine was giving this to every girlfriend I have that is approaching motherhood its very reminiscent of Don Freeman's "Corduroy" in cute factor.
