Item description for 99 Bible Promises for Tough Times (99 Ways) by Randy Petersen...
Overview This is not a book of happy denial for difficult situations. It?s not about turning pessimism to optimism or finding the silver lining in every mist. Life is tough. And if you?ve been watching the news lately, you know it may be getting tougher. If we?re going to get through these problems, we have to get through them. We can?t tap-dance around them. Maybe Little Orphan Annie can get away with that as she convinces President Roosevelt that ?the sun?ll come up tomorrow,? but this ain?t Broadway. We?re knee-deep in real life.
One great thing about the Bible is that it confronts real life. It stands up to real issues. The Old Testament character Job faces every catastrophe you can think of, but as he pleads his case with God, he still sings, ?I know that my Redeemer lives? (19:25). The apostle Paul lists all the beatings, arrests, and shipwrecks he has endured, he tells about his unanswered prayer, and he still hears God saying, ?My power is made perfect in weakness? (2 Corinthians 12:9).

Reviews - What do customers think about 99 Bible Promises for Tough Times (99 Ways)?
Small book, packed with great encouragement Dec 9, 2009
I seldom read books that arrange Bible promises by topic. I prefer to read the Bible itself to dig out the riches of His promises for myself. But in this small book Randy Peterson has carefully selected relative Biblical promises and written great applicable devotions to go with them. I highly encourage buying this book for those on your Christmas list that need an uplifting, go-to resource during these difficult times.
A Lot of Help from A Tiny Book Dec 8, 2009
I recommend this book to everyone. It has the Bible's strongest scripture in compilation for easy reaching. When you, or someone you know, are at a low point, maybe from loosing a job, feeling quilty about something, a death, or just feeling at a tough spot in your life, grab a copy of Peterson's Bible Promises for Tough Times. It will help you understand that with God's promises and His hands around you, even the lowest, toughest times can be overcome. Definitely a must have book for everyone to fall back on. Peterson deserves 5 stars and praises for magnificent work.

A little book with a lot of encouragement Dec 8, 2009
Everyone can use a little encouragement now and then and this little book delivers it. Touching on a wide variety of topics such as financial difficulties, poor health, anxiety, sin, guilt and more - there's something for everyone in this book. Each promise has a scripture reference along with a short devotion which makes this quick and easy to read for those who are busy and on the go. Perfect for gift giving and affordable.
Good but not great Nov 23, 2009
I confess that when I agreed to review two books for "The Value Gifts" book tour, I was hoping one of the books in the "99" series would be 99 Ways to Stretch Your Home Budget or 99 Ways to Entertain Your Family for Free since I don't consider myself a financially creative fellow... though my brothers and sisters could describe many creative ways in which I "saved" money in the past "creatively." Alas, I received the book 99 Bible Promises for Tough Times by Randy Petersen. I would consider myself fairly aware on this topic having taught various Bible courses at the college level for ten years as well as having taught portions of the Bible in other contexts.
The book is nicely broken up into seven sections dealing with various types of tough times. A "devotional thought" from the specific Scripture passage is given. Although not overly deep, the author does a good job of connecting the Scripture passage to the Biblical promise and does so in a way that is neither "proof-texting" or weak theology. Graphically, the book is nicely laid out also. Nothing spectacular about the book, but solid in content.

Important promises Aug 19, 2009
God made a lot of promises to his children, and He's quick to keep those promises. I once listened to a woman explaining that she didn't believe all the answers to her problems were in the Bible. She needed this book. In the pages of 99 Bible Promises for Tough Times you'll find promises about health, work, grief, failure, success, touching on every aspect of our lives. This book isn't a 'leave on the shelf' book. I'll keep it beside my Bible so I can refer back to it, over and over. Recommended.
