Item description for Wenn Musik der Liebe Nahrung Ist, Spielt Weiter / If Music Be the Food of Love, Play on by Peter Jonas...
"What's so fascinating with opera is the fact that it covers the entire range of emotions and the entire range of taste. Opera lives because it speaks to everyone, to the educated and uneducated, to the civilized and non-civilized." In his 13-year tenure as artistic director of the Bayerische Staatsoper,
Sir Peter Jonas has put the most prestigeous opera house north of the Alps in a new light in terms of artistry, aesthetics, social impact and culture politics. In Zubin Mehta he found a cosmopolitan congenial partner.
Wilfried Hsl's theatre photographs capture the art of the moment, transform the power of emotions into images: love, eros, power, death in the spot light of the present. If opera is the appearance of the possible beyond the real, this volume is the attempt to capture the most authentic and vital, yet most elusive of all art forms. A farewell publication to the outgoing artistic director, Sir Peter Jonas, who will leave Munich in Summer 2006.
