Item description for House by Frank E. Peretti & Ted Dekker...

In rural Alabama, two couples find themselves in a fight for survival. Running from a maniac bent on killing them, they flee to an old house that's been empty for years, or so they think.

Publishers Description

A mind-bending supernatural thriller from the creators of "This Present Darkness" and "Saint."

Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker--two of the most acclaimed writers of supernatural thrillers--have joined forces for the first time to craft a story unlike any you've ever read. Enter "House"--where you'll find yourself thrown into a killer's deadly game in which the only way to win is to lose . . . and the only way out is in.

The stakes of the game become clear when a tin can is tossed into the house with rules scrawled on it. Rules that only a madman--or worse--could have written. Rules that make no sense yet must be followed.

"One game. Seven players. Three rules. Game ends at dawn."

More About Frank E. Peretti & Ted Dekker

Frank E. Peretti With more than 15 million novels in print, Frank Peretti is nothing short of a publishing phenomenon and has been called “America’s hottest Christian novelist.” The Oath (Word Publishing 1995), sold more than half a million copies within the first six months of release. The Visitation (Word Publishing 1999), was #1 on the CBA Fiction Bestseller list for four months. Born in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada in 1951, Frank is a natural storyteller who, as a youngster in Seattle, regularly gathered the neighborhood children for animated storytelling sessions, drew comics, and tapped out stories on his mother’s portable typewriter.

His journey toward becoming a writer had its side trips. After graduating from high school, he began playing banjo with a local bluegrass group, then worked as a musician and odd-job man for a small recording studio.

Shortly after he and his wife Barbara were married in 1972, Frank toured with a pop band and then a modest Christian music ministry. He later studied English, screen writing and film at UCLA before spending five years helping his father pastor a small Assembly of God church in the Seattle area. During those five years he labored at night, on weekends, any chance he got, to write his first novel, This Present Darkness, the book that would catapult him into the public eye – eventually. Numerous publishers rejected the novel and Frank gave up his pastoring position to work in construction and odd jobs to make ends meet. Even after Crossway Books published This Present Darkness in 1986, the novel sat on store shelves largely unnoticed.

Two years later, Frank was working at a local ski factory when word-of- mouth enthusiasm finally lifted This Present Darkness onto a tidal wave of interest in spiritual warfare. The book appeared on Bookstore Journal’s bestseller list every month for more than eight years. His two spiritual warfare novels, This Present Darkness (1986) and Piercing the Darkness (1989), captivated readers, together selling more than 3.5 million copies. The Oath was awarded the 1996 Gold Medallion Award for best fiction.

For kids, Frank wrote The Cooper Kids Adventure Series (Crossway and Tommy Nelson), which remains a best-selling series for children with sales exceeding 1 million copies. In August 2000, Peretti released the hilarious children’s audiocassette series titled Wild and Wacky Totally True Bible Stories, reprising his role as Mr. Henry, the offbeat substitute Sunday School teacher found in two Visual Bible for Kids videos. In 2000, Frank released his first-ever non-fiction book, The Wounded Spirit, in which he deals with the problem of bullying.

In all, including his current work, Illusion, Frank has written nineteen books of various size for various ages.

Frank and Barbara live a simple life in rural Idaho. He leads worship at their church, Barbara paints in watercolor, and they enjoy being with their close friends.

Frank E. Peretti has published or released items in the following series...

Reviews - What do customers think about House?

Almost great. Almost ruined by the preaching.  Nov 9, 2008
A very entertaining and imaginative horror novel with some great twists in the story and some good suspense. By about 300 pages in though, the novel becomes overtly Christian and starts to preach, a lot.

Without the cringe iducing final 50 or so pages I would have given this 5 stars. It gets 4 because it was excellent up until then.
Didn't really care which one of four would be terminated in the book  Nov 3, 2008
I have read several books from both authors. Because of this my expectations are high. Dekker is normally a master of plot twists and clearly presenting good vs.evil. Dekker sometimes struggles with full character development. The plot twists were lost on me because the character development was so poor. I was hoping that the serial killer would win in this book so that the whining of multiple characters would end and the book would end. I didn't appreciate a single character.

Jack and Stephanie are husband and wife and no reason for either of them to be hero's in this book. Because they lost a child, we as readers are supposed to see them as potential heros??? Jack spends most of the book looking at the other woman. Stephanie should have stayed locked in the closet in this book. Randy is not staged correctly to poise him as a tool for evil later on in the book.

The person that seems to be the most repentant for their own situation, dies first. So much for redemption.

Actually liked the evil tin man for a while until he started pouting and throwing a tantrum in one of the closing chapters. I would say more, yet would give away too much of the book.

Go read these authors' other books!(Thr3e, Adam, Visitation, A child called Blessed, A man called blessed, obsessed, blink, showdown)

There is some hope for the movie coming out because the visuals could be interesting. Debating if I am going to see the movie.

House - audiobook version review  Oct 14, 2008
For me, House was strange, repetitive, and disappointing. The same scenes seem to happen over and over, and the action is difficult to follow. The narrator did a good job, but there were a few editing mistakes. I didn't finish the story - and don't need to find out how it ends. Try some other works by these authors - they can both write a great book, but this work does not reflect their talent.
Intriguing  Oct 14, 2008
This was a page turner. They did a good job with the description, some parts are really creepy.
The ending, however, wasn't too good.
Extremely Dissapointed  Oct 9, 2008
I like to find Christian authors for enlightenment combined with entertainment. I have not read any of Ted Dekker other books; however, I have read almost all of Peretti and was disappointed from this book to the point where I would actually write a review. Finished the book like a bad movie just to get it over with.
