Item description for Mediaeval: Patterns of the Romanesque Period (Agile Rabbit Editions) by Pepin Van Roojen...
There is no doubt that at its best, medieval pattern design can match that of any other era, even though it has often been overlooked in favour of the styles devised after the Middle Ages. However, it was during the Romanesque and Gothic periods that two-dimensional decorative elements and structures were developed that remain popular even today. Their particularly strong qualities include bold and powerful forms and subdued colours. MEDIAEVAL PATTERNS offers 100+ outstanding samples, carefully restored and reproduced in a very high quality.

Reviews - What do customers think about Mediaeval: Patterns of the Romanesque Period (Agile Rabbit Editions)?
Not for professional designers Oct 23, 2006
I bought this book/CD-ROM intending to use the patterns in my graphic design work. I had assumed (wrongly) that these images would be permission-free. After receiving the book I learned that use of Agile Rabbit Editions' graphics in a professional capacity requires permission from the publisher. I have found this permission process takes several days--a major problem when working under a short deadline. Depending on the usage, there may also be a fee in addition to the initial cost of the book. If you want a ready-to-use copyright-free graphic resource, then you're better off sticking with the books put out by Dover Publishing.
