Item description for The Treasure Box: A Novel by Penelope J. Stokes...
Overview Vita Kirk is a travel writer who has never left her hometown. But when she stumbles across an antique chest in a boutique, she discovers a puzzling link to her past, and her physical surroundings mysteriously begin to change.
Vita Kirk is a travel writer who has never left her hometown. In fact, she rarely leaves her house. Due to deep wounds and bitter losses, Vita has chosen isolation over vulnerability. But when she stumbles across an antique chest in a hole-in-the-wall boutique, she discovers a puzzling link to her past and her physical surroundings mysteriously begin to change. Inscribed in the treasure chest are the words, "Love is the key that unlocks every portal."
The power of these words prove to unlock a part of Vita she thought had died years ago.
"Stories like this go by many different names-fantasy, time-shift, magical realism. Some are overtly Christian or religious in nature, others are not. But from a spiritual perspective, the common thread in all these works is the redeeming, transforming power of God's grace not only to alter the future but to change our understanding of the past."--Penelope Stokes

WONDERFUL JOURNEY Mar 10, 2010
GREAT FAITH BASED BOOK. The story of Vita Kirk and her mystery runaway program on her computer. This program teaches her so much about life and LOVE. Then the lines of fiction and reality get crossed. A wonderful read.
Awesome view Aug 1, 2007
I thought this book took on an awesome view point, I really enjoyed it and recommend it to anyone, who likes Penelope Stokes works, but it is a bit different than some of hers other stories, it is an awesome story.
TALENTED AUTHOR Feb 23, 2007
This is my fourth book by Ms. Stokes and I don't consider it her best but it is a good read. I would have given it five stars but the ending was full of so many twists and turns that I found myself rereading previous paragraphs just to keep the characters' relation to each other in my mind. I loved the premise of the treasure box storyline but the suggested explanations at the end were a bit farfetched.
I have two more unread books by this author on the bookshelf and know that more adventures are awaiting.
TEN STARS IF I COULD Jan 31, 2004
This was such a wonderful book. I LOVED it. It was so neat to see it all unfold. It was so well written. This is the first book I have read by this author but I will be buying ALL books from this author. I would have to say this was one of the best books I have ever read.
Mystical...Magical...Emotional...a real page turner Oct 18, 2003
I have read a few other books by Penelope Stokes (Blue Bottle Club, Amber Photograph, Amythest Heart, etc.) Some were good, some so-so. The Treasure Box was excellent!
Stokes really made a good blend of magic, bitterness, happiness, sadness, love, hate....you name it. The book is a page turner that draws you in. I recommend it to anyone that likes a little fantasy with alot of real life. The real life situations make you hurt, laugh, cry, love...along with the characters in the book. I think I'll leave it at that. I don't want to ruin the story for any of you but instead entice you to pick it up for yourself! =) Happy Reading!!
