Item description for The Amber Photograph: Newly Repackaged Edition by Penelope J. Stokes...
Overview Armed with only a faded photo, 25-year-old Deidre McAlister searches the Blue Ridge Mountains for the older sister she has never known, turning to God as she comes to grips with her own dark history.
Before Diedre McAlister's mother dies, she gives her daughter an old photograph and says: "Find yourself. Find your truth. Just don't expect it to be what you thought it would be."
The truth will shake up Diedre's world, threaten lives, challenge her faith-and quite possibly save her life.

For the Heart! Dec 30, 2007
Oh gosh I love this author. I have read a few of her works and they are incrediable. This story was a little close to home for me but I made it. Reading it has helped me understand that the healing does come in time with the right help. Even though this is a work of fiction you would swear it's true. From beginning to end is a smooth flow blending one chapter into the next as if someone were telling you their life story. The description of the scenery is wonderus and Sam is the most adorable little boy you would ever want to meet. Wish there were more children like that today. Llama's are an interesting animal and work really nicely here as well as the Native American influence. Just so much color that the narrative flows like the best chocolate. This is not a book to be missed.
Still a great one... Mar 17, 2005
This is the 3rd book I have read so far which is by Ms. Stokes. It is about a girl with questions about her birthright. It is about a woman who was in a flight for freedom and independence and about one's family's demons that separated and broke a family. It is about feminism and the problems that lie within. It is about despair, hopelessness and living in fear but it is also about family reconciliation and hope and joy. Still, I am recommending this book because it will touch your heart. Another one of the books which no reader should miss.
Penelope delivers again! Dec 30, 2004
I was introduced to Penelope through the Blue Bottle Club and subsequently have read all her other books. They are all good in their own right. Amber Photograph falls short somewhat, but I cannot put ANY of her books down. This fact totally amazes me since she is listed as "Christian Fiction". I love all her characters and take something from each book I read. I will re-read all of them in the future and share them with anyone who will take them and return them to me.
The Best Book I've Read in a Long Time Jan 29, 2004
I needed something to read, so I borrowed this novel from the library, thinking it would probably be just another predictable work of fiction. But Penelope J. Stokes proved me wrong- this book is absolutely outstanding!! You follow Diedre's journey to the discovery of her past and feel like you're at her side as she uncovers the clues. Even though this book deals with some very mature and scary issues, I am 15 and LOVED this book. I would recommend it to anyone who is at least 13 and read it in daylight!
