Reviews - What do customers think about Juan y sus zapatos (Spanish Edition)?
Out of the ordinary for most Jul 30, 2009
NOTE: The author's name is Carlos Pellicer López
The fantastic award-winning illustrations in this book really had my kids asking questions. I'd say they're out of the ordinary for most American kids, depicting figures with disproportional features drawn from unexpected perspectives/angles in an almost one-dimensional style.
The story itself is slight: Juan gets very sick and feverish after eating too many guavas and in the morning can't remember his dreams. He must stay in bed alone while his parents go to work but soon discovers that his shoes can talk. They tell him the fanciful story of where he went and what he witnessed in his dreams the night before.
The Spanish-language narration is straightforward; the author is a visual artist, not a poet.
Young kids will definitely enjoy this book and be captivated by the exotic illustrations.
