Item description for El nido de la serpiente (Narrativas Hispanicas) by Pedro Juan Gutierrez...

Reviews - What do customers think about El nido de la serpiente (Narrativas Hispanicas)?

At the start of the revolution...  Jun 28, 2007
This should have been the first book by PJG in his series of novels about Cuba. In this one Pedro Juan is 15-21 yrs old and the reader gets a sense of how it all began. Coming from a poor family, at the start of the revolution, his parents were forced to sell much of what they had to survive. Pedro Juan himself fished sea crab daily to earn a few pesos. No surprises here for those of you who read Trilogia sucia de La Habana, El Rey de La Habana, Animal Tropical and all his other books about Cuba. Via PJG's life, we, the readers learn of the Cuba we don't hear about often enough. Not the beautiful beaches of Varadero and Holguin but rather hunger, desperation and strife. This one is not his best in IMO but it certainly puts the situation in perspective.
